61sleepercab

I have been working on a B-61T 1961 Sleeper Cab that I saved from the junk man. I know that the sleepercabs are rare, but how many are still out there and not turned into beer cans or manhole covers? The body was so bad I was afraid to show it to my friend the bodyman because I figured he would say she was a hopeless case. We have decided to mark an X on the truck and build a truck from that spot. I have two 4x8 sheets of body metal so that is a start.

I have brakes and changed the oil with no sludge or coffee grounds on the oil screen or pan. I have yard drove the"Ugly Mack" ( the name given the truck by an owner's family) so there is hope.

I have talked to Fuzzy Buzzard who has a sleepercab but I notice not a lot of info or pictures on the sleeper cabs. Any info or suggestions would be helpful. I saw this truck on the road still working and have talked to two former drivers of the truck and two owners or their families. The old girl started out as a Surface Bananna tractor, hauled groceries and produce for a local Foodland stores and ended her working career pulling a lowboy for a dozer and loader company.

Glad to hear of your find. My pasture bound B model had the last inspection sticker of 1991 and it was sunk in the dirt with low or flat tires. We put in 5 gallon of fuel and pumped up the fuel with the primer and pulled the old girl and she ran and had brakes. So 14 years in the field and we drove it home.

I let one of my Macks set a little too long and the foot valve is stuck from moisture. I am soaking it with penetrating oil and going to remove the top. Any hints from some one who has allready been there and done that. Thanks.

I am new to the site and do not want to reinvent the wheel. I have a B-61 single axle tractor and have figured out that i need bigger arms or power steering to make life better. I am sure that someone has grafted in a steering box and pump from something like a school bus or some other doner truck. I would appreciate any tips or advice other than join the gym. thanks

Glad you found this site, lots of good advice, thoughts, ideas and BS here. Sorry to here about the wife's objections - if she needs therapy, just have her call my wife. Just 4 would have been a blessing out here on Ignorant Ridge! Will try to catch a warm Sat or Sun and ride the ole 'Wide Body' over for a visit. Remember - WATCH THEM FRAME RAILS!

Glad to hear from you. I may have a source for some 24.5 dayton rims and maybe some tires. Do you need good rims or rims with some rubber still attached that still holds air?

I just joinded the site. I am Mark Sergent from West Virginia. Over my wifes objection I have drug in four B model Macks. Two I have running and two are for parts. The trucks are about 1959, 1960 and 1961. The two running are B-61T's one is a single axle dump and the other is a Sleeper cab single axle tractor, both on 22 inch rubber. They sat from about 1993 untill 2005 when I rescued them from the junk man. I would appreciate any advice , I plan to do a fleet restoration on the sleeper cab while Old Blue will serve as a farm dump. Thanks.
