  1. what has volvo doing to mack are they trying to turn people away from them or what. 7 out of 9 granites that the co that i work for which range from 2007 to 2010 have had to have the frame cross members replaced all of the trucks have tripple frames and are tandem coal trucks just this week the newest one has had to have both rears changed. the owners son was doing routine mate on truck and found metal in oil pulled rears out and bull gear bolts were loose and missing on rears. (mabey factory mistake that got past quality check or just cheap bolts) when they put new rears in truck mech found stand bolts missing started checking truck and found about half of the huck bolts that hold the truck together (frame cross members) were loose. i hope this truck is just a fluke and none of the rest of the mack trucks have this kind of problems and causes mack any grief. i hope that volvo sells mack trucks to someone that cares about the quality of a good product not just name reconition for a good product (die volvo die) ..joe

  2. this may be a dumb question but here goes is it possible to put a 3406 in a b61/5 theres a good lookin b pullin a coal bucket around the job i wotk on and the guy says its a 500hp 3406 but ive never seen the engine i know it has a lot of tourq when he was pullin a hill today it looked like the driver side front wheel was going to come off the ground. today was the first time ive ever seen the truck pulling a trailer he only drives it when the weather is nice the rest of the time he drives a freight shaker. joe

  3. if you have the time i would pull the inlet tube to the turbo and check for any thing in there also wouldnt put it past any one that drove for or got mad at the person that owned the truck before you. the co i work for now got two bolts wraped with alum duct tape out of the intake manifold on one of their RD coaltrucks (things people will do)...joe

  4. my friend has a small mining co and he has a old D8k dozer that i run for him sometimes it has a D342 non spacer plate engine the dozer is a 77v series and he had the injection pump rebuilt but now it wont push worth a crap the cat mechanics timed the engine and everything and it made it even slower it dont roll black smoke like it used to it has a new turbo and filters. my question is how do turn up the fuel on the pump do you adj the high idle screw and the low idle screw or what to make it push like it used to..joe

  5. thanks from the info it would not be that much dif or no dif from the quad box that was in the truck (7220) in the high gear on the highway. with the 237 i prob wont see the high gear unless im empty. im going to try to talk to the guy agin and start with the scrap weight for the trans i know at a min it will need seals and prob some new gaskets if i can get the trans at a good price. how much do they weigh? . joe

  6. i have a few questions about them 1 are they a good trans 2 what is the shift pattern 3 are they hard to get parts for 4 are they good for off road 5 would one give good high way speed in front of 7.49 rears (50/55) with tall 24.5s 6 what would be a fair price for one that has been siting in a truck for 20 years not moved. any info would be greatly app i know you guys know your stuff about everything mack thanks ..joe

  7. things people will do when they get mad at the trucking co when something dont go their way the mec took the manifold off of the truck to check replace the gaskets and found two bolts wraped with alu duct tape in the manifold. too big to get into the ports of the head but still big enough to cause problems put it back together and the truck runs better than mine now that it can get the air that it needs to let the bulldogs run and not fall over gasping for air. joe

  8. talked to the mechanic he said the engine was rebuilt with new cam installed about a year ago. new after cooler. new turbo. new rubbers on the pipes. and new air filters 2 weeks ago and the truck still wont run right and he has no clue on what else to do to it. i told him that some of the members on here were mechanics at mack dealers and he said to ask for help .... (i told him about reprograming the computer ) what do you guys think ..joe

  9. the truck is a 03 cam dont know smoke is black at about 1700 and up when pulling. and shifting gears. pyro/ boost dont know. but the truck i drive is a 99 or 2000 and the pyro runs about 11/1200 on the same haul. my truck has the same engine trans 8speed fullers 6.73 rears. my truck dont bog down when the rpms get below 1600 it pulls good down to 1300. if you need more info i will try to talk to the mechanic and driver tomorrow and ask if they know what boost/pyro runs and about the cam. joe

  10. i just cant figure the re gen out if it is for emissions why do you have to burn it off it just dont make sense to me. no smoke while driving but lots of blue smoke when burning off and smells like burnt clorox (i guess i spelled it right). kinda defeats the purpose dont it. joe

  11. the trucking co that im working for has a prob with a 427 E tec in one of our RD 800 coal trucks the truck will run like mad as long as you keep the rpms above 1600 but if they drop below that the truck falls on its face loaded or empty the truck has been to the mack dealer many times the mechanic said hooked to computer and still no change it is timed right pumps have been changed. i told the owner that i would ask you all for help. i told him about this site and he said he would check it out he has 30 trucks 28 of which are macks and 2 ints (junk) no one wants to drive them and they are allmost new. i guess it is because they are too limber when you have 45 tons of coal an your back (off road). you just cant beat a mack with camel backs for standing up in soft muddy roads...joe

  12. yester day i got my first granite truck its a 2009 i was excited to get to drive one. the excitement wore off very quickly though on the second trip up on the mountain it started shuting down. it would not hardly pull out had to find a wide spot and let it burn off. 2 trips later the same thing. eventhough its a mack it sucks so today i traded trucks i got a trusty RD 888 instead it has a 427 in it it is a power house 46 tons up truck dump hill in 3rd at 1800 rpm. i like the look of the granite but not the problems but im verry happy with the 99 RD . i will try to get some pics of the trucks to put on here...joe

  13. i called watts mack today and checked on avil of brake parts for the old rusty dog.( the local mack dealer/parts house said that the parts i need were not avil any more )guess what i talked to tom told him what i need it took him about 1 min to look up all of the parts i asked about and the one they dont have in stock they will have next day and i will have them in 2/3 days so when i get the parts im going to be a prick and go to the mack parts store and ask them why they arent avil to them when everyone else can get them and show them the parts and i will tell them i will not be back. i will call watts for my parts ... joe

  14. the axle and rollers im talking about are the ones that go on the s cam they are 2 piece not 1 piece like the newer ones the older ones had a axle that goes through holes in the end of the shoe then the roller goes on the axle then the axle goes through the other hole and you line the axle up and lock it in place with a roll pin. joe

  15. the guys at worldwide equipment (MACK dealer) are the ones that tols me that they were not avil anymore buy like i said before on here if it aint new they dont want to look up anything for them if they cant find it on the computer thats why everyone around here are going to other brands of trucks.. joe
