  1. Yeah, that was the old Kenworth CBE, my Dad ran one of those for Yellow way back in the sixties, had the sleeper laid out behind the cab and the engine compartment, single axle with a JT175, 5 speed main box with a cable operated two speed rear end, geared for 53 MPH but rarely went that fast....nasty truck according to him.....

  2. I don't generally have much dough left over for "extra-curricular" activities, but thanks to my lovely better half Linda we have been able to restore our 1976 Ford F-250 and set up a small machine shop so I can manufacture the parts I need to work on this invention thing I have going on.....the truck is fun, inventing is extraordinarily challenging. I have enjoyed seeing the wide variety of hobbies that BMT members have in addition to their trucks. Very cool. I'm going to attempt to attach pictures of our truck and mini-machine shop but I'm not so good with the whole computer thing so please bear with me, Thanks, Rick

  3. You missed the point.  When someone asks a question, you should either try to help them or keep your thoughts to yourself.  You don't make sarcastic comments and you don't call them names.  If you need help comprehending that concept, let me know.

You, sir, I believe to be a hypocrite. If you would take the time to refer to the response from Deo and then examine the remarks that you made regarding said response, you would find yourself behaving in a manner that you are currently railing against: I quote" Seems like you spend your time posting silly responses....your time would be better spent taking a basic writing course....become buddies with a third grader, with a little work they should be able to teach you how to spell "like". To me it would appear that he (Deo) based his response on his own personal experience and was endevoring to share that with you and while doing so introduce a certain amount of levity to his response. I missed the point? No sir, I think you did and I for one applaud Deo for his forthright reply, Rick

  4. B81sx, Beside the mis-spelling of  "Like", what was so silly of my response? I said it would probably be $3500 or more to do what he wanted, and it would be cheaper to do it yourself or have a friend at a body shop help him. Thats how I do 99% of my work. If I don't know how to do it, I read about it, try it myself, or have a friend who does it help me out. I could not afford do do anything,  if I had to pay a mechanic to fix or build my cars or trucks. I was not trying to be a smart ass or what ever you thought I was being. Sorry if I offended you by spelling like  wrong. I have dyslexia and if I type fast and don't proof read it, I end up with some errors. I spell the as teh, like as liek, and others wrong. You get the picture etc, its not that big of a deal. These forums and email are not forum paper writing documents and I don't type as if they were. I normally type as if the post was a conversation, not a letter. I was just trying to help another truck guy out. Thats what the forum is all about.

Sorry again, I will try and re read my post and correct my spelling before  posting in the future.

    Thanks

    Deo

Well said Deo. If you spend even a small amount of time looking around BMT, you'll see that it is rife with all sorts of absurd spelling and grammatical errors but virtually all the members and guests here understand that the point of this fine site is to exchange information and ideas, and not for the petty critisism of spelling errors so don't let some mook with a hair up give you a hard time......and that is probably a run-on sentance(sp?) Rick

  5. hard on the hand, but take a zip gun and make that shit come out... as long as it will stay it the frame it will take expansion. when it comes out sand blast, clean till all the sand comes out of the crack and paint it.. you do it one time, after you order single frame and drink beer enjoying it  :thumb:

What do you think about saying to hell with the old triple/doube frame setup and have a new heavy single frame bent up, punched and swap it in?

  6. Welcome, my 5 cents worth would be ,has the engine received the  modified breather system to the engine, ie no longer at the rear of the valley cover?

    nigel   :chili:

Hey Nigel, you've got me stumped on this one. I'm fairly certain that the engine is stone stock so I would imagine that the breather system is as it was from the factory. Could you tell me what I want to look for and what the benefit is for a modified breather setup? Thanks, Rick

  7. a mack faw5371, 12k front axle and a faw14.3, 14.3k front axle are the same except mack will shotpeen the axle to get the rating up to 14.3. kingpins, steering box, spindles,  should swap over. brakes are still 15x4 or 16.5x5. basically the only difference is the spring rating of the front springs. from the factory 16.5x5 brakes are standard equipment.

Hi Rick, Thanks for helping me out with this, just to clarify can I use the same steering box, pittman arm, drag link, spring hangers, shock mounts and shocks? I guess what I'm asking is can I just get a 14-6 FA and springs and bolt it right up? Thanks again, Rick

  8. Hello to all. I have been perusing this fine site for quite a while and have found it to be very interesting and informative. I spent most of the late eighties up in northern Maine hauling logs up on The Golden Road, and into Canada. When the wood market slowed down I drove all sorts of stuff, roll off, front loader, dump trailer, petroleum tanker etc., etc., ad nauseum. Then I said to hell with it, took off to Alaska and let my commercial license expire. I had driven all sorts of different rigging, from a nasty old Diamond Reo with a 6-71 and a thirteen speed to A-cars to Petes to you name it but through it all I had been fortunate enough to run a whole bunch of Superliners, some with the E-9. Well a couple of weeks ago I figured I'd get back into driving and guess what? I'm right back into a sweet '88 RW613 straight job with an E9 500 and a twelve speed, a Prentice 120C log loader hauling hardwood for a firewood processing outfit. Best truck/engine combo ever made IMHO- I had forgotten how good those things pull.....I am also doing all the mechanic work on this rig and I will be pestering you fine folks for all sorts of info/advice related to getting this old girl back into shape. Thanks in advance, Rick
