  1. New owner plans to tear it apart and make it a tow truck. :( Sad day. The only good news is that he has another Mack firetruck inside from NY, his plans were the same for it. The property renter told me he bought that one five years and has not touched it since then. Maybe both will be spared due to the owners slow pace. Unfortunately, he did not have the shop keys to get me in where the other one was stored.

  2. 2011 Season starts again this weekend in Mercer! Cant wait! I wish well to the Rogers Group, hope their running again this season. I hate that I moved so far away from these events, because now I can only see youtube and stats down here in ole NC. They dont know what their missing here! Turbos, spool and smoke make these events something to remember.

I wander if Kendra selling shirts? I will have to PM her.

  3. New information, my dad just found the Mack R engine again. Its in Franklin, PA on 322 at the old Shaw Mack dealership under the canopy. Wonder whats up with it? I am going to see if he can swing by and found out its status. Looks great, little rust by the pump panel, but other wise OK. Rear body defintely has been replaced your right looks like a swab.

  4. Found a set of trays, thanks for all the information about possible leads.

Is anyone parting out a CF? I am looking for hard suction trays for the rear side of my pumper. Its a 1973, but I am sure more that just that year would fit. Let me know location and price. East Coast would be best, so I can swing by and pick them up.

    Thanks, Tim H

  6. Ok, I talked to my boss Chief McGrath. He retired from Philly as a Chief, so I filled him in on the conversation here on the forum. His father worked on the engine that run out of the station( I think Eng30) and he played on L20 as a kid.

I am sending him the pictures posted here. He filled me in on the property number. Tags and titles were not used. They used 6 digit numbers to identify the piece of equipment. The first two digitals tell the year the truck was built and the next 4 digitals identify the unit. He also said it was painted on the truck in atleast for places.

If you go to Phillyfirenews.com the pictures in the forums it show these numbers painted on the equipment even today.

He knows for sure that Harry Magee can help. He is a 5th generation Philly FF.

In those pictures your right that white number has to be its property number. He also told me that they have an officer that is responsible for all apparatus, and that he was sure that many of the old folders on these trucks still exist.

Cant wait to learn about what you find out, as he cant wait to learn more about your truck. He was so exicted to know that it still existed.

  7. Well I just got back from the local Mack dealer and as I suspected there is no hand stamped serial # on the block. They were not sure what to tell me as the block many years ago was sand blasted and this must have removed the numbers. I have it down to a 707A, but Watts is telling me there were 6 different rebuild kits for a 707A because of bearing and crank sizes. Anyone know how I can easily tell the difference, so I can get a rebuild kit on order from Tracey?

  8. Thanks for the warm welcome!

We usually do hire every year, because we are growing like a bad weed. Unfrotunately with the budget this year we may be limited to 0 or 20 folks. Only time will tell!

  9. I wanted to take a second an introduce myself to you all. I am Tim Henshaw of Raleigh,NC currently a firefighter and firebuff. I grew up in NW PA and have always loved Macks and firetrucks. My Uncle drove a R with a maxidyne and manual, red of course, and I fell in love. I have been reading Bulldog magazine for years, but have recently come into ownership. I had three firetrucks in the stall when my CF arrived this spring.

I had been looking for years but they were either or of my price range and wore out like a pair of jeans. To make a long story short, I now own a one of a kind Mack CF685F. It was the only stainless Mack CF every made according to Allentown. It drives like a dream with 64,000 oon the clock. I have gone through it mechanically now, it turned out to be better than I expected buying it sight un seen.

I also run a website similar to this called: www.alfowners.com. Please stop by and check it out. I am also working on a L85 for my FD so I will be tossing out alot of amateur quesitons over the next couple of weeks.

Look forward to meeting you all, Tim H

  10. Guys I am brand new to the forum, but wanted to get my first post out there. My Fire department has a L85 with a blown up 707A. I found another complete motor up in Baltimore County, MD. I now have it in the shop and have been working with Tracey @ Watt's to get parts. I cant find the serial # anywhere? Where do I look.

I found the ENF707A number behind the oil fill cap; I found the block casting #s; there are stamped #s a each spark plug and three stamped #s on the side of the block behind the distributors. Tracey said the #s should be like GB11, but none of the numbers match.

    Thanks for your help. Tim
