  1. So, funny, but not funny story...Back when I had first got the truck, I had mixed up a batch of ATF and acetone to pour in through the injectors. Put in a glass bottle (old little boy soldier that met an early demise, aka, drank the rum faster than should of) and put it on the shelf for warmer days. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago...Have to sell the house, and move the truck. Said bottle gets put in the back of my truck, and we head to a storage unit to drop off the load that we put in the trailer. As we are unpacking, I start to smell something...Turns out, one of the kids went into the box of the truck to get a gas can out, and then slammed my tailgate. No need to slam it, but being 12, not much muscle. Walk around the trailer, and see a big puddle forming behind my truck.... Bottle had broke, and spilled all it's contents in the box, and then running down the side of the bumper to the ground. If you got close, it was hard to breathe....Luckily, had a bag of floor dry in the trailer, so tossed that on the mix to sop it up. Now get to mix another batch, and try again.
  2. Yea, still haven't been able to see if the engine is locked up or not...But just looking at the truck as a whole, it's going to take a whole lot of lovin' to get it back into shape.
  3. I had thought about that very thing by removing the driveshaft. I am going to try to see if the parking brake is locked up before I pull it, as it would be nice to slow it down coming off the trailer I am going to put it on to get it home. Blocks will certainly be used if I do pull the shaft. Don't need that heavy one rolling over me!
  4. I do agree dropping the driveshaft will make it easier to move around.
  5. Thank you Paul! That was my first thought, and will try to see that it is loose. Trouble with buying something off the tree line is, you never quite know why it was parked there. Let just hope it is the brake that is stuck, and not gear damage in the transmission that parked it however many years ago it got put there. I had hoped to try to use both engine and transmission to start, but ultimately, will use newer engine and transmission as the project progresses. Glad I could bring a smile with the Jake brake meme...Still young at heart,..
  6. I am starting to wonder if that parking brake got played with, and stuck on. it seemed like it wasn't, but guessing we could take it off and find out.
  7. Yep, that is what I knew of from working on my Jeep, but didn't know if this rear end was different based on the outer looks of it.
  8. Time for a little update...Mack got moved over to the neighbor's tree line for the moment, as we had to sell our house. When we went to move it, the rear duals we thought were locked up, as it wouldn't roll, they only slid. Upon further investigation, they do turn, just opposite of each other. We picked up the rear with a loader tractor, and then I pulled the whole thing over to the neighbors until I can get back with a big enough trailer to get it to my new place. What I am wondering is, why is it locked up, but still spins opposite? I am not well versed in these rear ends, so it may be something simple that I just am not seeing. transmissions are in neutral, and the parking brake is off, and appears to be free. Thanks for any help!

  10. Not sure how much a bond will be for the rig when it is complete, as they place a value on it sitting there. He said from what I described, it is worth 5K as it sits. I said, it is worth scrap price at this moment….he said, then scrap it. He also said to keep all the receipts, paperwork…etc when I fix the truck up to put with it. So essentially they want a running and driving truck to pull in there so he can put 20k as the value and I need to get a bond for 1.5 times the value of the truck. I am strongly thinking of looking for one with a title and use this old girl for parts if needed.
  11. Well, that was a waste of time. Guy wouldn’t sign off on it because I didn’t bring the whole truck…I said all that says was a VIN check, and a lady told me I could pull it. Turns out you can’t do that. 🤬
  12. Yes, have a printed picture of the stamp in the frame that I will take along with the tag. One could argue that the tag is illegible, but when you see those numbers on the frame, they match up pretty darn well. I put the door on last night, because we have severe wind here today, and no tarp would have stayed on.
  13. Well, pulled the door off thinking I was going to bring the whole thing in, when I looked and saw that I could unscrew the plate from the door. So I pulled it off, and will just take the plate into the dmv inspection. Funny enough, they sent me the plates for it despite no title.
  14. I knew this was going to give me some trouble…almost looks like it was scratched out. Does anyone know what size number die set they would have used on these tags?
  15. Gotta love this screwed up state. Got a letter today saying that they will not issue a title until an inspection of the VIN tag takes place by one of their inspectors. They have clear pictures of everything, so this is always frustrating. Half tempted to pull the door off, and bring that to them. 😡
  16. Thank you for that explanation! Makes a lot more sense now that it is laid out that way. I do recall looking at semi’s as a kid, and seeing a whole bunch of licensee plates on their rig. Never had anyone I could ask about it. Makes a lot more sense.
  17. I agree, that one is going to be a project. My wife is complaining about my complete B61 that I will be fixing up.
  18. Agree with you! Many folks have told me to turn my rig into an RV, and I wouldn’t have any trouble. Not sure I want to do that. You mention a fuel tax, do truckers pay more for fuel to fill their truck vs me in my 2500 diesel? Not fighting words, just curious of a person who doesn’t drive one.
  19. I do wish MN would be a little lenient in historic plated trucks hauling antique tractors on a trailer, but the law is the law here. She said if I put a trailer on it, it needs different plates. I know we love these trucks, and would drive them to a great extent. But from what I have seen of the drivers today, they wouldn’t even climb in the cab of one of these old girls, much less try to drive 'em. Perhaps we have a local chapter that can shed some light on what I could do here in this state.
  20. I tried telling her that, and although she seemed like she knew what she was doing, she certainly did not know trucks very well.
  21. Funny enough, when I went to try to get the title for the truck, the clerk couldn't find Mack as a brand of vehicle in whatever program she was using. I politely told her that this is an old semi tractor...but she apparently did not believe me from the pictures I had provided, as there was not any other items to reference it's size. She got on the phone to the state to add Mack to this program she was using, and the person on the other end explained that she was looking in the wrong spot, and that this wasn't a 1 ton truck. I could hear the one side conversation, and she said, "it looks like a small version of an old Ford". 😲
  22. Thanks! Being I more or less jumped into this feet first, there are a lot of things I probably should know, but do not. The fella I bought the truck from is a member of the ATHS I think, (he gave me old magazines from them) so perhaps he knows who I could speak with.
