  1. Hey everyone! Needing some help. I have a 74' RL700L with the ENDT 676 Baker in it and the maxitorque 12 speed. I was hauling the other day and lost 3rd Direct gear. Will go into gear once RPM's drop but as soon as you go to accelerate it just spins. I drained oil and found a chunk of metal in drain plug. I was hoping to put some heavier oil (85-140) in it. I had 80-90 in it and temps got up to 200 degrees pulling about 2k feet in elevation. Does anyone know if I can bolt an 18 speed behind this motor or am I pretty much stuck with the 12 speed?

    Thanks in advance!

possibly brakes were added later. do you know much history of the truck== who owned it previous or who may have changed parts not corresponding to axle tag.

Paddy Boy from this forum is who owned the truck before me. He sent me a message on here. I bought the truck on Richie Bro's auction.

I'm not sure if that uses the same parts as a regular FA532 or not.  Maybe some of the more enlightened here can shed some light on it.   I can't find an FA(W)532 in any of my other literature.  So, that one's a mystery to me.

Maybe you can measure the thread sizes (and pitches) and compare to the dimensional sketches in those catalogs to find something that will work.  As long as the tapers are the same, the threads are the same, and the lengths are reasonably close, they will work.

I hate to pull one apart to get these numbers, 'cause that leaves it undriveable!  But, sometimes it takes that to get the dimensions.

I'll keep digging through some of my old stuff and see what I can find.

Yeah for sure. It is my only truck so when it's down that's money I'm not making. As far as not having brakes, the truck has front brakes so not sure what the N means.

  4. It's hydraulic. I bought the truck on auction so I'm not sure if this system is original or not. It has a power steering pump that is gear driven behind the air compressor on the passenger side of the truck. Four lines go to the cylinder that's connected to the pitman arm which is attached to the steering gear box. Two hoses from this cylinder go to the cylinder under the truck that runs parallel with the cross member.

    VIN is RL786LST24497

In my opinion 80/90 will work fine for you

Yep, as Alex and the dealer said 80/90 for the diffs, thicker oil maybe if its really hot and hauling really heavy weights for long periods and really heavy I mean over 200,000 lbs  and in 100 degree heat for 12 hours straight, but I doubt it this is your situation

Thanks guys! I will continue to use 80-90 then.

  6. Hi everyone,

I bought a 74 RL700L dump truck a few months ago on auction and am looking to get a little bit more info on it. I live in Colorado and use it daily to haul. It has the 10spd maxitorque transmission in it. I talked with the dealer they told me to put 80-90 gear oil in tranny. I am also putting the same weight oil in the differentials. Does the diffs require a thicker oil. I am hauling around 50k-55k gvw and changing about 4000ft in elevation. I've read on here some guys are using 85-140. Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated. I am also looking to see where I can get a service manual for the truck. Thanks - Scott

you have an air leak in the selector somewhere  preventing the trans from shifting out of neutral. it should not be leaking air

I took the selector apart and replaced an o ring because it was leaking air. After I did that is when I have the problem.

  8. Hi all,

I'm new to this forum but I need some help. I just bought a 74 Western RL700l dump truck. It has a 10 speed maxitorque transmission with a PTO on the side. The side of the tranny has D107 on it. The selector has D, L, N, R. It is not moving out of N. The selector moves freely but the transmission is not coming out of N. The air hose to the top left blows a lot of air out all the time. Do you think something is stuck? I'm lost, replaced the O ring on the innards of the selector, the one that goes over the port holes. There are four ports on the back, one on the top right, and on the top left on the bottom not on the wall like the others. Any help would be appreciated!
