Yes there is a gearcase a few feet behind the transmission where the power take-off for the water pump comes from. I don't know yet what all it does

Ya that was my thought too... I'm too young to know much of aluminum frames but seen it on a local wrecker recently and yea it was thick. What are pros and cons of aluminum frame?

Mowerman I don't think I am gonna get a good night's sleep till the unit is in my driveway. had a phone conversation with the driver after it was loaded. He says the cab is more solid than he would expect a truck of that age to be. The frame is the thickest he has ever seen. But he couldn't tell me if it's aluminum so yea I'm chomping at the bit to get it here and crawl all over it finding numbers and figuring out what I got.

Thanks mechohaulic we really like that trailer 53' with 2 lift axles so it's easy to make it Cali legal. truck fired up and drove on the trailer under its own power! yes height was measured, it was 14' from the earth to the tip of the exhaust pipe so he removed the muffler and stack and it is now under 13'6" , stacks on the Kenworth are 12'4" so it makes the load appear tall. Should I take this off the introduction forum?

Oh boy now you're making me nervous lolol, I will definitely be taking lots of pictures but this isn't going to be a six digit, every nut-and-bolt, frame off restoration. Cause there isn't six digits available to make it happen. lol. I'm hoping to have a lot of fun with it and end up with a somewhat user friendly sleeper truck. But I currently have my Marmon tore down for a motor rebuild and just got the motor back. After that's stuck together and making revenue again, this ol Mack is next!

Thanks for all the info guys. I did confirm that my driver is going to load it this weekend so I hope I will have it in my crosshairs mid to late next week. Cannot wait to crawl over it and get some solid info. The cab interior is all steel and luxurious pale green😍 I will post pictures when I get it here and can take some in person. I never thought much of it when guys will buy a truck at an auction, sight unseen just going by pictures but I just now joined that crowd. However, if I would have flown out and looked at it first I woulda spent more on tickets than I paid for the truck so who is losing here 🐶 doubleclutchinweasel I was wondering if there was any R700's that came with a V8, thanks for that info. I was previously under the impression that superliners were the only trucks with that option. Also I am not convinced this unit has a big cam... It is a Cummins but the guys that were selling are just the auction company and I'm not convinced they know enough about older motors to properly identify it 🤷‍♀️

Hey y'all, just bought my first Mack, a 1971 R700. It's set up as a water truck, has a big cam in it and a Eaton trans. Bought it out of Oregon and have one of my drivers in the area this weekend so hopefully I will get it home (central PA) to give a good going over in a week or so. Didn't really need another project but it isn't often to see a long hood R for sale and for <$5k I couldn't help myself. My dream is to install a 5th wheel and sleeper and put it to (occasional) work pulling step deck / low boy like my other 3 trucks.

OK thanks for your input. I definitly like the way my e6 runs I havent hardly touched it other than normal maintenance but the kicker is the weak engine brake. A good jake makes a world of a difference in brake usage lol

How strong is the engine brake on a '95 - '03 E7, like compared to a c15 or n14. I've never run one looking at maybe getting one but i definitly want a stronger eng brake than my '90 e6 has

Some pressure is normal I dont know what psi a e7 runs coolant at. My e6 has 7 psi when it warms up. If its more than it should be could be a blown head gasket
