You're on the right track. I also agree with your last statement on another post, and our experience is also that we are seeing fewer problems with "08 & '09 trucks then we had back in '04.
By '06 & '07, the Asset engines were doing alot better, especially after some of the later updates, but there were still issues.
I still think that we're through the scariest part of emissions with EGR & DPF. I don't think SCR is that big a deal.
But that being said, there are others that feel there will be some breakthrough on the horizon that will clean up the emissions in the combustion chamber instead of in the exhaust after-treatment, and all this other crap (EGR, DPF & SCR) will go the way of the dinosaur.
For example, Volvo is experimenting with burning a mixture of diesel & methane. Most people in the know still agree that diesel power will continue to be the power of choice for heavy trucks well into the future.

You think the advance EGR is gonna be a nightmare Dave?
I know Dave McKenna, manager of Mack powertrain very well he's been out here several times to see us. If you haven't seen his section on macktrucks.com, take a few minutes to do so.
International's mass EGR is going to pay a penalty in heat rejection & fuel mileage, let alone serviceability.
I really think Mack & Volvo have the inside track on SCR.

Take a look at the Maxxfoce video on youtube. If you think SCR is a nightmare, look at this. Yikes!!!
Try the link below, if that doesn't work search youtube for "maxxforce"
Thanks, but no thanks.
Three inter-coolers, two turbos?

Not sure about what you mean about a "Cat nightmare", I think that was a compliment.
It's still too soon to tell, but it seems like Mack is in a good position with EPA 2010 technology, they have had a little time to "de-bug" the basic MP engine platform, and everybody else will hit the street with brand new product.
I heard Cummins is struggling to get certified for 2010. I think 2010 technology sucks for sure, but it's here anyway.
The Titan looks good in that extreme logging application, but I still think it missed the "mark" for most of the rest of the North American market.

i can't find much on that thing, but what I did find showed it as only being put into service Sept. 2009. If that is legit, there may be factory warranty on that thing. Check it out.

You are to be commended sir, a good concience is not a curse at all. Hats off

What's under the hood?

Definitely wasn't an Allison. I think it was a nine speed.

I agree with fjh on this one. You said the previous owner had all Macks, and he is just assuming the other guys don't have any problems. THEY DO.
Don't think series turbo Cats are trouble free!

Hope this helps. The plugs at the power divider and top carries side cover are magnetic. They are only for initial fill and should be checked (for metal flakes) and cleaned at service. After that check oil level at the middle of the lower axle housing.

Just in case you're interested, power is 12 cyl Cummins NVHB natuarally aspirated (400 hp) I'm not sure what trans is in them, some 2-stick Mack, could be a 9 or 10 speed.

The pro's for Steer-tek air ride are: improved ride quality, slightly lighter weight.
The con's are: not serviceable, not able to set camber, not able to replace king pins.
I am around both, and I can't usually tell if it is air ride or not just by driving it. I work closely with a customer who has both spring steer and air ride steer axles in fleet service, and tire wear is not as good with air ride steer, and there have been some handling (front end shimmey) complaints, seems like mostly with shorter wheelbase trucks.
Based on my experience, I would not order it on a new truck, however I would not let it keep me from buying a used truck if everything else was right.

Also noticed it has an air-ride steer axle. There have also been some issues with those. For one thing, they are not serviceable, if a kingpin wears out, the whole axle goes in the scrap bin.

Yes. 3.94 is original, that's also the tip-off that it has 200 series carriers. A pedigreed CXN is rare. I also thought I saw that it had a 70" sleeper.

For the vin you posted, 20002, it was originally built with a T313LR, 13 spd trans and had 22.5 tires. That would be a plus if somebody already changed it over to 24.5.

Ask the dealer to pull a fuel mileage report out of the ECU. I believe it should have a 13 spd (T313LR). All current Mack & Fuller 13 spds & 18 spds are all OD in the top two ratios.
It looks like this truck has 22.5 tires. With 3.94 ratio my gut tells me its legs are a little "short". Also has 200 series carriers.
I don't know how & where you run, but for OTR fuel mileage may be marginal. But you as the driver can do a lot to make it or break it when it comes to fuel economy.

Mileage is right, price is a little strong, must be a nice one. 97 is last year for E7 (pre E-tech) engine. Hope the trans is a 9 speed Fuller, I'm just a little less warm & fuzzy about the Mack T2090 trans.
Go for it, 97 was a good year for the Bulldog.

It's been a long time since Mack actually built their own drive axles. Dana used to build them until recently, now Meritor builds them, from Mack designs to Mack specs, and warranted by Mack.

Interesting question Rob, I'll try to find out.

Mack has just introduced their first driver controlled locking differential. The new series will be called 150/151 series, and production will begin in the first half of 2010. 92/93 series and 112/113 series will be phased out.
At the last dealer meeting, dealers were encouraged to sell more Mack components.
Should be interesting to see how that goes.

Not too long ago a guy from Pitman Pa. had a pair of similar trucks on evilbay and on his own web site, he was down to $3,500 ea before they disappeared, they were chassis with no fifth wheels, but in the pictures and descriptions they seemed very nice, way above average. Yes, I think you're on the right track, but that's only my opinion, and you know what they say about opinions.

Don't forget, I don't think their engines are actually EPA '10 compliant, I believe they are only able to do this with banked credits, sooner or later they're going to have to comlpy.
