Following up....I ended up buying a replacement wheel like the one pictured here in Vladislav's post, it came from 4State Trucks and it is a universal wheel with the needed hub and accessories to allow it to fit my steering column. Thanks for the help with this issue. The wheel I purchased doesn't have the Mack Logo on the center, it has SCI which is the wheel manufactures logo so if having the Bulldog on the center is a problem they won't work for others. It wasn't a problem for me.

My guess is that style of the wheels could have different hubs depending on a truck model it was used on (don't know for sure though). The wheel I used was off a Mack and had its center with Mack logo, as on the picture.
I believe that is correct, I've seen that style wheel on many different brands, The guy selling the 'Complete Mack Steering Wheel' I purchased states it is a MACK wheel...but I have found that he only sends the center after you pay him another $60.00, since I don't like 'shakedowns' I'll find a center for the wheel somewhere else.

Morning all, I have an 1986 Mark R685S, It has the mack steering wheel that feels like a soft rubber material that gets sticky feeling at various times/weather conditions, if you have one you know what I mean. I do not like it and would very much like to change it for a wheel with the solid bone type similar to what the older B models had. The problem is there are far to many wheels of all types listed for macks but most if not all offerings don't stipulate specific model fitment. What would I need to do to get the information need to be assured that the wheel I'm purchasing fits my particular wheel column? I really don't want to pull my wheel to count splines or mic shaft size if I can have the new wheel in hand before I pull the old one, Thanks for any help with this.

It's hard to take Homer's and Lowes seriously, they're basicly big box retailers trying to do home improvement stuff. Fleet Farm used to be my Go To store, but they've gone downhill the last few years. Menards is good on price, service is usually MIA, and they seem to carry a lot of junk. Bomgaars is good on pellet stove fuel and feed, overpriced on most other stuff. Strangely enough one of my local hardware stores is competitive on Milwaukee tools and carries a full inventory, as was the hardware department of Second Street Steel when I lived in Minneapolis.
Always best to use your local businesses when ever you can possibly afford too, local people doing business with local people as a truly Americana ring to it.

I may be wrong, but i'm one of those who believe that they could cure it if they wanted to, but there's way more money to be made by a lot more people in the treatment rather than a cure.
I would like to think you're wrong....but in this crazy dam upside down world we're living in you're probably more right than I know.

After digesting this for a few days I’ll can say I’m done being angry at my employer. They will soon find out that payback is a bitch and I’m the girl. As far as my non -Hodgkins goes, I’ve always known there was the chance of a return engagement. One reason why I never bought a truck. My treatment schedule is this starting tomorrow, three 3 week treatment regimens with a week off in between each. Hopefully in 12 weeks we will know weather we got this or if I’m a done deal. I figure out m too ornery and stubborn to die and that god and Satan agree that both are ill equipped to deal with me. But I’m going to give it the old team effort. Feel free to holler at me. My email address ismike69mackman@gmail.comThanks for the well wishes and I’ll talk to y’all in 12 weeks. God bless
Best of luck and prayers. Positive attitude is a big part of recovery for all of our ills.

FIRST AND FOREMOST- HE ASKS THAT THIS STAYS OFF FACEBOOK.
He does not mind you guys knowing what is going on but he wants to keep it off facebook as he does not want certain people knowing his business. Many of you are aware that he was treated about 3 or 4 years ago for Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, a form of cancer. He was able to beat it, however it is a persistent form of cancer and often comes back, which it has. He begins some aggressive chemo treatment on Monday 4/30. He was kind of worried that he might have had to go to Pittsburgh for that but is able to do it locally. He will take it one day at a time. He is naturally upset, but keeping his head up.He approached his bosses late last week about the problem and explained that he would need time for treatment and to convalesce. He explained that he wanted to stay on part time for a while, as soon as he could go back to work, and then come back full time when he was able. His bosses fired him on Monday at a breakfast meeting. Mike has already seen an attorney who explained that as the Company is in New Jersey, they law is on their side, however he believes he may have a case and they will be filing a wrongful termination suit. This is what really has him upset right now.
So for obvious reasons, Mike may or may not make Macungie depending on how hard the chemo kicks his arse. Please keep him in your thoughts and remember no mention of any of this publically on Facebook.Although I don't know this man...I will pray for his speedy recovery....and that this disease is finally cured.

Good God man! seek help, there has to be SOME miracle treatment that would allow you to enjoy both! If not, I understand, in certain cases we have to remember what our priorities are.

Funny that this is how things are in America today......I've talked to more than a few VFW's and they ALL had one thing in common, they said that if you weren't a believer BEFORE the shooting started, you dam sure were AFTER.
The problem with todays politicians is, IMHO the fact that most never held gainful employment in the country which they are making these judgments on....nor ever served in the military. Both should be prerequisite before anyone be voted into public office.
I myself never entered the military, I graduated from HS the same year the Vietnam war ended....the military was not a popular place to be at that time, I've regretted ever since.

In my opinion, if you like low maintenance paint...clear coat it. If washing and polishing is your thing don't bother.

Nice bit of American history, thanks for posting that up...along with the link to the photos. I wonder if anyone in that room during the development of the model T had even an inkling of what they were actually doing to the life style of American people, and really the world at the time they were doing it?
I believe up to that point in time the vast majority of the US population never venture beyond twenty miles from their birth place during their entire lifetime.

It would appear these wacko's are no longer content just causing a few deaths and injuries...they now are going for body count.......I, for one wondered how long it would take for them to target large ( sports games, NASCAR, concert) type events and when they become more available use other means of mass killing...like germs or dirty bombs, it's coming... at least in my opinion, I hope I'm dead wrong.

Thank God we...no wait, America elected obama...I wasn't in that camp, he has been wonderful for race relations, they are now worse than 1960's levels...maybe beyond that. I can't remember beyond the 60's. I can only hope I live long enough to see this trend reversed and things back to the levels BEFORE he came to be the CAC.

What needs to be done to it besides airing up the front tires? ......and why are they both flat? Just asking because $5000.00 seems ridiculously low for a classic such as this.

R Model Steering Wheel
in Mack Truck Q & A
Posted · Edited by Mcrafty1
Many of the R models in my area have/had the type of wheel I'm replacing, everyone that I know of has/the same complaint with them. what ever they used to make the wheels feel softer to the touch caused the problem I think.
