I set up an early 491 Sheppard gear in my B-42,along with the 522 front axle. Some of the later B-61SX's came with them.It makes for nice 1 finger steering, however the single belt P/S pump doesn't cut it though.

And I was sniveling about $128.00 per side in 1992 when I bought mine, thought I got raked over the coals.
Unfortunatley, it is $1000 per side...$2000 for a pair. They are a complex item to make, each peice of the assembly had to be made from scratch and the chrome pieces chromed, special jigs hade to be made to bend the glass trim, all new rubber and weather stripping. All I can say is that for the price, you are getting a super quality product! -
Been lurking a awhile, figured I'd finally sign in.New to here, but no stranger to Macks.
Is Volvo Good Or Bad For Mack Trucks?
in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion

Volvo only aquired Mack to gain market share, and to crack Mack's almost exclusive monopoly of the refuse business. As far as an earlier post saying "give the Granite a chance",I don't know.Since I started repairing trucks,I always gravitated towards Mack, but since around the late '90's,I have lost faith.I'm seeing problems that never were heard of in Macks. Not just electronic gremlins,I mean big blow-ups,turbos,Camshafts....Deja Vu,dropped valves,noisy/slacky,hard shifting transmissions, bull gears and ring and pinions with poor hardness, the unit pump E-7's are always on the hook.Sad to see,but the way it is.I long for the T-676/X-107 days again
