  1. When it comes time I was planning to have them painted with the tires on....Will masked off the tires.
  2. I'm not close to doing this yet but I have two questions about 20" rims. In the 60's, Mack used a light gray on the rims from the factory that where used on Dayton style wheel hubs. I have been given some paint info from the museum, but the gray appears to be a little darker than I remember as I believe a few different shades were used over those years. Also, when I get to the point of a repaint of the entire rig, I want to remove the rims and have them painted separate from the hubs, then reinstall them back onto the Dayton hubs. i have been told that on the rear duals, the rims tend to get scratched when tightening the dogs/clamps down onto the hub/rim, mainly because the outside rim is usually initially cocked a bit..... Is this true? I wouldn't want to scratch freshly finished rims....or, have some of the restorers painted them while installed? If so, it doesn't seem like a good way to get a factory fresh look.
  3. It made no sense at all when the fire line went away. The CF was the biggest seller and there are still many, many refurbed rigs still serving today. It was a mismanagement issue as the product was top notch. Look at how many L series, B series, C series and CF series fire units still around an running today. Companies like EOne and Pierce (who, by the way, partnered up with Mack for a short while and then helped run them out) cheap sold their units to run Mack out of the market. Now those same companies are even more high priced (in comparison using todays rates) than Mack ever was. How do you go from having a majority market share to out of the business? Just have a bad business plan like what happened to Harley (quality issues that Mack really didn't have) and currently American LaFrance, which is also on the way out.
  4. I have a TR671 transmission in a 1958 C85F. For those not familiar, it's a cab forward fire engine. Need an in cab shifter boot for it. The shifter is not over or on the trans. and attaches to a long linkage.
  5. Looking for a thermostat for this engine. It's in a 1958 C model fire engine with a single distributor. I just plugged off the auxiliary cooler system from the pump that's inoperative anyway. I'm going to have the radiator removed and gone through as after about 10 minutes of driving ot climbs to the 210 degree range.
