I chose the 70s and 80s.

Although I think a cleaned up B-73 tandem tractor with a flattop sleeper may be one of the most beautiful trucks ever made, I think the RWs and the R700s are some of the nicest and toughest trucks around.

I am trying to get some superliner pictures togeather. I saw the topic below, but there are only a few trucks in there. Is there a place where I can find many superliner pictures? Could you guys post some of yours???

I've been looking in on this forum for years but never posted. I got into macks when one of my uncles bought a '79 R685 water truck and had me spend a couple weeks getting it back in shape. I really liked how it was built. QUALITY! Thing always started and had plenty of power in front of that 5sp tranny.

The truck is gone now but since I got my CDL permit, my interest is back. Hopefully I can find a truck to rent early next month to take my driving test and get my CDL.

I'll be asking a lot of questions if y'all don't mind. I love the look of the Bs but I'm really into Rs and RWs.

Okay, I am told that all tri-axle straight trucks can only gross 73,000lbs, no matter how they are built. Correct or not?

I am told that is because you need 4 axles to gross 73,000lbs (1 front, 3 rear), And to hit 80,000, you need 5 axles (4 rear, 1 front).

If this is true, it is federal regulations about weight per axle, not manufacturer's ratings, correct?

So the DM800 that I was recently told about with a triple frame and 65,000lb rears would have a higher manufacturer's weight rating that 73,000, but if it was a tri-axle, it could only gross 73,000?????

So the DMs could be had with the heaviest axles, and the superliners could be had with the biggest engines?

So the superliner is mostly made to pull something, while the DM was made to carry it?

So brand loyalties aside, which was the more powerful engine? Mack V8? Cat?

Okay, I think the DM is made to be a dump truck, so I assume it's the toughest of them. The R is a dump or tractor, correct? Is the RW made to be just a road tractor?

Which would be better suited for heavy hauling duty? Were they all avalable with axles as heavy as the next one? HP ratings?

As I understand it, some R models have an extended hood. (RL700L as an example maybe?)

Other than the better looks, why did they do this? Something added under the hood? Intercooler?
