  1. So it's just a very low first gear?? Okay, that's what I had originally thought, but I read something that I thought said otherwise.

So an 8 speed with a low hole is still just an 8 speed, but has a very low first?

    Thanks, Phillip

  2. I hear a lot of guys talking about trannies with a "low hole".

Are all low hole trannies, just whatever the tranny is, with a low range box added?

So does any tranny with a "low hole" have twice the gears, or do some just have a particular low range??

    Thanks, Phillip

  3. I have heard many times on this forum that if people could buy a 70's-80's-90's R model new again, they wouldn't even consider the current offerings.

Those of you that are actually running the new stuff....say you could buy an 80's or so R model new again, would you really consider it over the current Macks? If the price was the same? If the price was 20% less than the current trucks?

I'm really curious if what I have heard is just people talking, or if they really like the older stuff that much better.

    If it's true, why???

    Thanks, Phillip

  4. Do you go through a company to keep your truck working, let each individual business know about your business, or do you have to bid on spesific jobs?

If you have a company keeping you loaded, how do you find them?

If you are talking to individual businesses, what sort of info do you take to them?

If you are bidding, where do you go to find out about each job?

    Thanks, Phillip

  5. Ya, I poke around on occasion, but not very often. Not much on there anymore. Most of the usual guys got banned when they started to frequent "other" sites LOL!! Whatever.....

Yea, things really came to a halt over there when they shut down the other forum, and made it a technical questions forum. That's when I quit there. I do peek in now and again.

  6. It's sad that companies producing good quality prouducts cannot make it anymore. It's not just trucks, but generally everything. Every once in a while you will find a small nich company that produces only the best, but had Mack gone that route, the only people who could afford it would be the extreme duty market and we would be out.

You can have a big company producing mediocre products, or a small company producing wonderful products, but there is no way to offer a great product to the mainstream anymore. Those days are gone.

I guess it's goodbye to the real Macks.

Well, hopefully someday I can put togeather a strong fleet of 80's and early 90's macks and keep them running, because I don't forsee the quality coming around again.
