  1. Try south eastern Minnesota on I-90 Austin, mid summer, hot day smell wafting from the Armour / SPAM packing plant...........Gag a maggot kind of wretch. Honestly it was WORSE in the winter cause the smell was year round & in January with the heat on....well you get the idea.

Do NOT miss that at all

  2. Well, that's off the list then...

Did Cook Bros use the cab on some of their trucks?

Yes, Cook Bros made use of the CV cab.

Others are correct that Diamond Reo never used the CV cab, doubtful if Reo did. Need to go look in the archives.

  3. ill say it again , we have 2 titans , great trucks one has 60k miles on it no problems hauls over 100k lbs everyday on and off road. best truck weve ever had. i hardly ever come to this site anymore because of people talking trash that dont have a clue of what there talking about,

After spending part of my life as a service manager for a Mack / Volvo truck dealership, MY opinions are based on servicing the only 2 Titan's, both with the same outfit, both used in heavy haul, both plagued with constant problems. Perhaps if we had more of them to experience, then perhaps MY opinion of the Titan would be better. The sales department tried to sell more to local heavy haulers, but in the end the initial notably higher cost of the Titan platform over a well equipped CH-613 505hp. Aside from the higher cost of the Titan, by the time one (in this application) was quoted, it weighed too much for the wonderful NYS bridge formula.

Good for you that you have 2 & they are working well for you & your application.

These are still MY opinions, based on real world service experience.

  4. FWD & Oshkosh also used the Comfo-vision cab. One important note in regards to the use by Diamond T, when the design was use on the 950 / 951 chassis, it was modified & assembled longer in the cowl & deeper in the cab. I forget exactly how much, but these were quit different.

  5. It would seem that Navistar, thru a series of bad decisions & miscalculations is getting closer & closer to a plummeting stock value where a buyout or take-over has become a real threat. The implications would be devastating to not just the company, but the impact on the US economy, as yet another US owned company falls to outside plundering.

  6. Yeah, NOW that's what i am talking about. 50 tonners with Morgantown style coal bodies & 65 tonners with rock ribs. All with offset cabs. The later units (square hood & fenders) commonly powered by Cummins KTA-450. Earlier versions have rounded fenders, these were usually powered by 12V-71. Direct mount Allison CL(B)T-5960 or 6061 power shifts driving either Rockwell SPRC-1927's or Clark BD-121000.

    Great pics.

  7. Only problim with that is i dont even know where any clines are any more havent seen any for about 10 years or so. Used to be a company close by that rebuilt the clines both prime mover tractors and coal haulers but there outta business now

    You mean Dayrl Casto?

  8. Classic Japanese design style, little bits here & there influenced by other makers. The Japanese way of engineering has always been to take an existing object & make it better. They typically are not as successful with a "clean sheet" build. So with that thought, we can easily see shapes from FWD (as sleepwalker commented) in the grille area, Ford F-800-900 in the cab, Eaton in the drive axles, Timken & KW Big-6 in the rear suspension.

All together these were close to indestructible, used for off highway logging in Borneo, the Philippines, and just about any other emerging economy in the 3rd world nations.

    Great to see these again,

    Rick
