macattack Posted September 4, 2011 Share Posted September 4, 2011 hey gang.about to replace the front king pins on my mr 688s and also my rear bushings. the kingpins look like they have a cotter pin at the bottom. any advice on doing these jobs. i have the tools just not to experienced in these two jobs.any tips on replacing the rear trunion bushings would be greatly appreciated.thanks Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
MasterTech Posted September 4, 2011 Share Posted September 4, 2011 This is not a bad job, The cotter pins need to be removed then the bottom cap screw out. Rear trunions can be a bear to get off. Got ahead and cut the u-bolts off the the hot wrench. you'll need to torque the new ones to about 1600 ft. pounds. Maybe it will have a 2-piece cap, there a lot easier to get off. Good luck! rhasler Posted September 4, 2011 Share Posted September 4, 2011 Anti-seize on the threads of the u-bolts, the contact faces of the nuts, washers, and trunnion housing. When you think you've applied enough anti-seize you've only got about half of what you need. Re-torque the u-bolts after about a week. Quote "Mebbe I'm too ugly and stupid to give up!" macattack Posted September 15, 2011 Author Share Posted September 15, 2011 ok. some bad news about my shaft. got my bushings for the rear camelback and i was told my trunnion shaft is worn.now can these be repaired? i will get it replaced, but can someone tell me what i need to do to replace the shaft alone. the hanger is good.
