Great buy. Has the same spec as my 79 R model. My truck has only 74,000 miles on it. I know it to be true cause it been in the family since new. Just replaced the water pump.
Post a pic here. We'd all like to see it.!

I love the way it looks.! I thought about cutting the hood on my dump truck to fit, but, I just don't see this grill being able to take a shot from a rock or even a sparrow for that matter..! And when it does get that rock or bird, will I be able to get another one.? If not, there's a screwed up hood. So, I sent mine back.

True that on quality. Mack dealer in Nashville said no longer available. I wish somebody would make a flat,
polished SS grill similar to the RS models but the proper width for the standard R.

Been wanting a chrome grill for my two Rs. Finally two different sellers on eBay listed plastic ones. The seller in Canada was a $100 less. Both sellers were using part #6MF519P2. I got the one from Canada and it was not even close to fitting the grill opening in the hood on my '73, '79 or '89 Rs. It is too wide. They've OK'd a return and now have the grill listed as fitting an F Model. Can anybody help sort this out or better yet, does anybody have an R Model grill?

I like your truck. My first Mack was a '67 R-Model. I can't figger out the jig saw puzzle welded together on the passenger door..!! WTH is up with that..!?! 237 with a 5 speed combo moved millions of tons of cargo in this country.!

What do you call later year models?
I meant later than the E6 and E9 that I consider to be great engines.
-
When shopping for a used Mack I know practically every E-6 and E-9 are dependable engines. But as my tire kicking might have me looking at later year models, I'm asking for opinions on which Mack engine should be avoided like the plague..?!?

The phone number with the ad puts this truck in Montana...! Too far for me..!

I purchased a new R model in 1980 with the 350 and RR 8LL. What a great engine. To my knowledge, the 350 w/tip turbine used the "split" cooler/heat-exchanger which utilized 60% air 40% water for cooling. The 300 and 300 "Plus" utilized 100% air from the tip turbine for the charge air cooling. I always dreamed of re-powering a B Model with a 350..! Keep us posted with pictures of your project..!

I love all the pics documenting the project start to finish. Some people I'm sure have no idea how much work this has been..! One more pic is needed....you and your dad standing against each front fender grinning ear to ear would be quite appropriate...!!

Mine is the 500 and I'm pretty sure that's top o' the chart for the US E9s. I talked with a guy back in 1990 from PA, a Mack employee at the time, that said E9s were shipped out of the country makin' 800 HP..!! No proof of that tho'...!!What was the highest power rating for the E9 in the US Im pretty sure it was 585HP out here

Do you guys consider the axle forward CH/CHU a modern Superliner?
Not even in a bad dream..! The original, "one and only", Superliner by its' very appearance screamed "I'm tough." And it was tough.! The very first visible feature that you notice on a Superliner is the large grill, which means a large radiator, which means large horsepower is lurking under that long hood..! I'm confident that we would have seen bigger dyno numbers from production E9s had it not been for stricter emission standards. Nope, there'll never be another one like it.! :(

Man if you were only here in the south.! What engine, rear axle weight, front axle weight, maybe try to post some more pics.

That still don't add up. In the US, FET is collected at the first retail sale. Unless the person(s) who consigned this truck to the auction is/was a Mack dealer, the tax should have been collected. I'm sure there is a reasonable explanation. Stuff like this intrigues me..!I called Richie Brothers, the reason on the FET,truck is sold on a MSO,not a title, the FET will be do the day of the sale

No. The RD cab is squared off at the cowl like a Superliner. And that's too bad, cuz I'd do it if owned an RD.Original R hood any day Can an after market original R hood be put on an RD without to much trouble. The RD looks good
as a dump or rolloff but awful as a tractor.

I'm trying to figure out why the federal excise tax is due. This truck must have been sold by a dealer in Canada. Only thing I can figger out.

Were your 3 RDs new or used? Mileage?I ended buying 3 Legend RD in december. We don't need any of those but couldnt pass the chance. One would have been enuff, but we didnt want the 3 trucks being separated because they've been together since new.
We will watch this auction, and our registration have been sent long ago
Some Superliner Pics.
