  1. Used to be the engineer on the Dana Spicer 184 from 1968-1975.. You have two models prior, the Model 918, and I no longer have any service manuals--would like to locate one. A slight chance I may be able to help. Have worked on a few Model 183's & many 184's, the successor models. Southern Coach, Dotham, AL might have a manual & parts if they are still around. Am very interested in old Mack buses & fire trucks as I used to call on Mack for fire automatics & export buses, but none of the bus deals ever happened. Mack stopped building buses in 1960. Most of my time involved Flxible & Flyer bus automatics. Parts/ info might be available through Richard Cushman Associates in Michigan. I'm Garritorr@yahoo.com, but yahoo is down right now & i am ill, so inconsistant on replies--good luck.
  2. I used to be the engineer/part time seviceman on this unit from 1968 until 1975. I can usually troubleshoot over the phone: garritorr@yahoo.com Please check out my recent post & I have left Charlie Hatfield a post in regard to this matter--would like to help if this is still a problem & have lots of other advise. Just bought a bus version of the 184 yesterday & am trying to acquire all the drawings dating back to 1932! Hope to hear from you soon. Regards, Gary
  3. Hi, Fellow Mack lovers! I worked for 23 years at Dana Spicer & 1 year for Kelsey-Hayes FABCO Div. I was the transmission engineer, draftsman, designer, service manual reviser, salesman & part time serviceman for the Spicer Model 184 Turbo-Matic Automatic Transmission from 1968 until 1975 (& predecessors) & Model 738 Transfer Case. I have had extensive experience in heavy duty clutches, manual transmissions, drivelines, axles, planetarty axles, powershifts; front drive/steer axles & many other misc. heavy duty powertrain products--pretty much anything behind the engine & know some about them due to their importance to the rest of the drivetrain. Have called on Mack, Kenworth, Peterbilt, Freightliner, GMC Coach, Flxible, Flyer, IHC, Western Star, Autocar, Hayes, Pacific Truck & Trailer, many fire truck manufacturers and numerous other speciality vehicle manufacturers including construction. Mack has always been one of my favorites--well qualified, personable employees & so many interesting & unusual products. My email is garritorr@yahoo.com and I am willing to answer as many questions as time & chronic illness allows. I can usually troubleshoot Model 184's on the phone, although 35 years rusty! Very glad to join your group! I'm located in Phoenix. I particularly want to contact Mackb67 & Charles Hatfield initially about the 184--hopefully I can find them, but I work much better if there is a dipstick & oil supply involved.....darn new-fangled electronic STUFF........ Regards, Gary )
