  1. Thanks for the info so far guys. I spoke to the owner today and made an offer. He said he found a couple leaky fittings and a bad fuel line. He has to fix that and put a new tire on it. I take possesion on Friday..$5500 w/the plow. Not bad I think..Once I get it I'll really have a chance to give it a good once over. I'll try to take some pix and post em'.
  2. Fullfuel, It's the manual priming pump I'm referring to. I really haven't gone through the truck thoroughly yet so there may be a small leak somewhere. I was just going by what the owner told me. It didn't sound right to me either.
  3. Thanks for the welcomes guys...Glad to be here. Hey Rick, You near Aggregate Industries pit? I used to work for Middlesex so I'm pretty familiar with Littleton.
  4. Hello, As I stated in the Intro forum, I'm in the process of buying a 1966 R-600 six wheel dump. This is my first Mack and though I probably could have bought something a little more up to date, it just kind of caught my eye and I gotta have it. I have been using it and as far as I can tell, the truck has been well cared for and is in real good shape. It sports the dependable 237 w/5 spd tranny. Motor is clean and run real strong. No serious leaks that I could find. Tranny shifts good, and everything works. There are a few issues however that need to be addressed so what better place do that than here. -No power steering- This is the one point that's really hard to get past. I'll be using it alot and it's really a PIA to make tight turns..Especially with a load on. Is it possible to retro-fit a power steer unit ? - Drivers side tire- The inside tread(engine side) is wiped out. King pins? -Loses prime when sitting for a while- The owner told me the primer pump was replaced, and it looks new, but it needs a new priming plunger. Could this be the case or is it possibly a bigger problem? I know it's hard to diagnose without seeing. -Parts- How hard or easy is it to get parts through my local Mack dealer or other sources? Well, I get thats enough to digest for now. Thanks.
