  1. Hi all, When the maxibrakes are applied should my front axles brakes be on or off? The front work with the brake pedal but not with the maxi's on. Is this normal? Tah
  2. Hi all, Having low temperature problems and so have changed the thermostat and opened up the heater tap (which was shut/off) to hopefully fix the problem. But now the gauge is playing up after fiddling with the electrics. My question is: does the water temp gauge stay at its temperature with the key off or should it go down to "0" or whatever the lowest temp is? Is stuck at about 75 degree Celcius constantly after fiddling. Also the temp gauge (before fiddling) and oil pressure gauge turn off when the truck has started and the key is turned to on. They will turn back on when you turn the key off!?! Any ideas what is going on?
  3. Hi all, Just wondering if someone can help me with what I am looking at on my R688RST. What are the two components circled?? Should they be hooked up anywhere? What exactly does this air line do? It isn't hooked up on my truck and is the blue line in the following pic. I just want to make sure having these things not hooked up won't hurt my engine!!
  4. OK looks like I don't have 3.54 in my rear housing from the sounds of what everyone is saying. The truck has a 5 spd box and the max speed we got it up to before we pulled her off the road was 70kph! Guess we will have to crack her open to see what is in there!
  5. Hi all, I have an engine coming with the number E63501S2696. What can you tell me about this engine? Is it a thermodyne? Comes from a 1983 Mack. What is the difference between the Thermodyne, Maxidyne and Econodyne? Are the the same block with different head?? And the differences between 237 to 350hp are because of the pump, intercooler, turbo?
  6. Hi, Thanks for your response! Can I change the diff ratio centres to say 4.17 with only changing the centres and not the housing? They are 44,000lb. So we have 3.54 in there at the moment. What gearbox would be best to go behind it to get up to 70mph/100kph+. Or would you change your centre? Which do you change...centres or gearbox to get more speed?
  7. Hi all, I have the numbers "354" imprinted on my rear diff housing. What does this mean? Does it mean what centres are in it?
  8. Hi all, Pulling down our 1980 Mack R-600 to give her a new coat and we have become suspicious that this cab has been in an accident before involving the back bottom passenger side. My question is: The support bar inside the cab that runs on the floor and is attached to the seats...should this be straight or have a bend in the middle towards the back of the truck? The floor covering suggests that it should be straight. Though it looks very symetrial. If anyone could look to ease my mind i'd be most appreciative. Thanks K
