WANT TO BUY Wanted - Cover for Evan Tempcon Heater - Mack R series
kahall82 replied to kahall82's topic in Parts Wanted
Hi, It is an 1980 320 Coolpower. Any colour is fine. These are certainly hard to come by! -
Hi all, Have just put an 18spd Eaton into an R Model Mack but now need to hook up speedo. It has 4 wires coming from gearbox and is magnetic inside. It has three wires coming from the engine bay. We have another Mack that has a gear driven speedo. Any advice is welcome!

Is this the buffer screw? R Model E6 350 Engine roll

Just saying...pour it in a pan and i might cook my steak in it looks that clean. Everyone always says the oil goes black straight away after you put it in. Maybe they are just making the poster feel better about their dirty oil -
Is this the buffer screw? R Model E6 350 Engine roll

Another thing it starts first time every time. Only started about 4 times a year in the past 3 years and before that sat around. And it doesn't do it all the time. Hasn't burnt any oil as the oil is still clean after 3 years...with a few trips on the road but mostly sitting around. Does that sound like something is wrong with either the pump or head? -

Thanks everyone. Hopefully it isn't the pump. If we find the solution I will post it up. If anyone else has any ideas don't be afraid to post! Thanks again! -

gearhead204 please see my previous post. It has video of the truck on you-tube. This is my original description - Seems to pulse on idle (sometimes it is fine though) and really pulses when you just touch the accelerator as you can hear in the YouTube clip. You really need to put your foot down but when you change to the next gear it does the same until you really put your foot down. http://www.bigmacktrucks.com/index.php?/topic/34007-r-model-320-coolpower-hard-to-drive-pulsing-r612rst/ -

Any help as to where it is located would be fantastic -
Hi all, If you could please check out the link to my YouTube clip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6tLOXM4DBA Does it sound like it is running OK. Seems to pulse on idle (sometimes it is fine though) and really pulses when you just touch the accelerator as you can hear in the YouTube clip. You really need to put your foot down but when you change to the next gear it does the same until you really put your foot down. May be just how the truck is...our 350 R688RST is completely different. Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks Steve

Hi, OK now it has 354 welded on the housing. But I have always had in my mind that they are 5.17 in there. I will have to go to the yard and check. Hi all, I have a 320 Cool power R-model. At the moment it has a two stick 5 speed transmission but I think the 2nd stick is just for lo-lo. And drives very slow...but has 354 welded on the diff housing. I have the chance to grab a Eaton 18spd double overdrive from a 1994 International Transtar. Will this make my truck faster and more for highway travel? I am just waiting on the model number of the box. Have read that double overdrives went out in the 80s but yet have had plenty of people tell me they are the go. Thanks for any info

Hi all, My 1982 R688RST 350 Mack is running cold. About 55 degrees celcius (131 F) all day every day, unloaded or loaded. Same with Oil Temp. But the heater is fantastic. Have noticed that there is a coolant sensor on the top of the radiator and one on top of the engine in the water pipes near the heater taps. Maybe the gauge is hooked up the the coolant sensor in the radiator and not getting hot :S And the oil temp sender may be fouled I guess as we just found it in the sump and bought a gauge to hook it up to. Replaced the thermostat for a 170 just 3 months ago due to low temps. Should I be after a 180 thermostat or is there another problem? Causing a whole heap of wet stacking :S

Hi all, Trying to find out what the part names are for parts B and AS in the attached diagram. Then I can do some research as to how to change them. Just bought the truck and the parts came with...but no idea as to what they are called. If they need replacing, this is what would be causing the truck to walk all over the road? Oil Leak Exhaust Manifold R688Rst E6 350
kahall82 replied to kahall82's topic in Engine and Transmission
Classic Mike Thanks for your response Rob!! And the smokey exhaust is only when changing gears or revving. Have had a smokey turbo on a car before and it was totally different so i'm guessing engine oil blow-by would be similar. Is the wet stacking causing damage? I'm guessing it is because full fuel is getting through due to puff limiter plugged up. When we set up the puff as it should be the truck has zero power. Back to researching -
Hi all, Have noticed an oil leak from the exhaust manifold on my 1982 R688RST with a E6 350 engine. The exhaust is a bit smokey but the puff limiter is blocked so we assumed it was from that. Any thoughts on what it could be? Where would the oil be coming from if it is just a leaking exhaust manifold gasket??? Engine seems to run perfect. Doesn't really get over 70 degrees celcius on the water temp gauge. neither on the oil temp gauge. Just fixed the exhaust on the weekend and the inside of the exhaust was wet. Black sooty wetness that could be oil or diesel?

Hi all, The speedo on my Mack R688RST is running fast. She has low kms and want to fix the problem before it racks up the miles! Could it just be that the speed sensor is faulty?? Where abouts is the speed sensor located? Thanks
-
Thanks Bob. Can't wait to get a load in the back! Rego tomorrow

Great thanks for the info Now with the puff limiter d/c is that why we blow a bit of smoke?

Thanks
