  1. Here's a question for you Mack experts, can you adjust those limiting stops on the front axle to improve turning radius ? I know the purpose of them is to stop the tire from rubbing on the frame but damn I need 3.5 parking lots to turn around, I had a guy turn the wheel all the way till it hit the stops & there not even close to the frame (12") at least...This is on a dump truck with only a 215" wb & 16' dump body, I haul with a guy that has a T-800 Kenworth 228" wb & 18.5' dump body & that baby turns in half the distance as the bull dog

  2. Well I finally got all the stuff done on my truck except for one pressing issue that I need to get fixed. 97 RD688S Tri Axle Dump. The issue is my lift axle. It goes down in no time flat. But when I pull the (push/pull) valve, it takes almost 90 seconds before the lift tires start to come off the ground. With this being a Watson & Chalin non-steerable axle, that is no good. I have replaced most of the air lines to it, new push/pull valve and new quick release valves at every air bag. The only thing that I believe I have not replaced is the adjustable pressure regulator in the cab and the guage. I have adjusted the regulator in the cab anywhere from 20psi up to 85psi and it does not matter, still bleeds off the same. Someone told me there might be a screen in the system somewhere that is clogged up but I cannot figure out where that would be. Does anyone out there have any suggestions as to what might be causing this.

    Thanks!

How's it going, I also run a tri up in Mass...What size tires do you have on the pusher ? I noticed when we had 385/65R22.5 on the pusher when fully raised it would only be about 1.5"-2" max off the ground, so we upsized the air lines & downsized the tires & it was much quicker...Hope this helps

  3. Hi, its funny they fall apart most of the time in a yard, we had one come in from the mine and it had been pulling triples every day, it was un hooked and backed into its parking spot and was serviced a week before and the steering joint had fallen out and landed on the ground as he got out of the cab. how luck is that.

    Grant

Thank God this shit happens when your in the yard or quarry or somewhere that your not going 65mph

  4. I hauled some structural steel to Worcester in the 80's. Way better than having to go into Boston. We hauled so much steel to Boston-downtown and all around-that I hope I never have to go back. I'm too old to deal with all the traffic and assholish drivers there now-too much job related stress ya know.

I hear ya there, Boston is not a truck freindly city...I did "Boston Patch" paving right after I got my CDL A when I was 18 till I had enough of it when I turned 20, no amount of money can cancel out the aggravation factor involved in driving in the city with all them snobby sons of bitches

  5. NY needs this too. Just go one block from my house to Liberty Ave and there are over a hundred Mexicans waiting to be picked up around 6-7 am. Even the Home Depot's have a crowd of them. I once witnessed cops pull into a home depot parking lot, single out three of them and a crowd of about 20 more scattered into the parking lot in every direction.

I just dont get why these ass holes in charge listen to immigrant rights activists who continioulsy lobby for more and more government support for ILLEGAL aliens. If we are giving them health care and a f**king drivers license why dont we just give them citizenship and while were at it free money. Whats the point of calling someone an illegal aliean or immigrant if law enforcement does nothing to apprehend them. They are breaking the law just by setting foot on our soil without permission to be here.

Oh and if you want your blood to boil, I have a friend who works for the department of homeland security. He works for customs and immigration. He told me a story of how families coming over and claiming political asylum get a free ride. Those that are approved are given TEN THOUSAND (or less, depending) dollars per family member to start a new life here. He told me aChinese family of five applied, were approved and given 50,000 dollars. They most always pool that money and start a business (surprise! a Chinese restaurant in most cases). I thought he was full of crap but he swears up and down he has seen the paperwork himself. He was even getting pissed telling me this story to the point that he started yelling. He works for his country, has served for his country in Iraq and has to struggle to make ends meet. Then he sees 5 ya-hoo's come of a plane and handed 50 grand. Is that sick or what?

I hate both the Rep's and the Dem's, all of them are lying crooks. But at least the republicans have a pair of balls once in a while. The Dems figured out a long time ago that they could gets lots and lots of votes from the minority and immigrant population by giving free handouts. Catastrophic move in my opinion.

Thats some BULL SH!T...But it's so true, that people can come over & get everything is handed to them & never work a day in there life...When my family came to Mass from Ireland they went right to work & never expected a hand out, now these jackasses come over here & get everything & not even learn our language, I love these bleeding heart liberal's say there's no one official language in the US, bullshit it's fricken ENGLISH...Here's an idea you come to our country that so many died for to keep it free & you learn our language not us learn your language....I'm done for now I'm pissed & need a drink, I think a shot of Jameson Irish Whiskey sounds good now

  7. Check the compresor inlet hose runs from the under side of the engine inlet manifold to the compressor intake !Betch its got a hole in it! You have a leak some where for sure look for torn or or blown hoses on the after cooler also!Boost leaks!

    Thanks for the info...

Can the pyro really get to a max 1,280*..And produce 27-33 psi of boost ? I drove a 93' R-Model dump with the 350 mechanical motor & it would build 40psi & never get over 900* & was a rocket ship :rmod_dump:

  8. Here comes the questions boy's...I'm driving a 99' RD model tri-axle dump with the 460 motor & 8LL eaton tranny & this thing has no balls, it only makes 20-25 psi of boost & the pyro reads anywere between 950-1100 degree's loaded, I've driven 350 hp mechanical motored :mack1: that would blow the fricken door's of this thing loaded or empty...It sounds like there's a leak coming from the turbo when you really jump on it, is that what's causing it ya think ??? What should a 460 motor put out for boost & how hot should the pyro get @ max...Also I think a motor mount is shot because when you shift it you can almost feel the motor twist the shifter right out of your hand...When my boss said you got the Mack I just about hugged him, now I want to punch him :D

  9. I wish NC had the balls to do what they have done, but noone would work our feilds then go home to Mexico with the money during the winter months. I hope everyone follows suite.

I hope Mass grow's a set, but not with "Duval Jones" as governor and a state full of Dumacrats, friggin bleeding heart liberal @ss holes

  10. I've also seen it happen, and the results aren't pretty!

With the old serviceable type ends it's usually caused by the spring breaking between the adjusting screw and the cup that rides on the ball stud. That allows the cup to back away from the ball and the link can come off the ball.

A 1988 would have the non serviceable drag link, and as Rob said, the main cause of failure on those is lack of lubrication over time, which causes extreme wear of the joints, allowing the joints to get so loose that the link eventually can pop off the ball stud(s).

I'll never understand the mentality that leads to lack of lubrication on critical parts.

Grease is cheaper than parts and it is much easier to install.

    .

I wonder if it would of been a good idea to just change the drag link let's say every 5 yrs or so, just a suggestion for piece of mind

  11. Woosta. Just had a two day show at Woosta sand & gravel 100+ trucks. Sorry no pictures.

    FW

I do believe that on August 1st there's a truck show @ the Hudson Elks club in Hudson,Mass :thumb:

  12. I've seen it happen but it has always been related to extremely loose joints, or impact. There is an adjustable nut in the end of the drag link where it mounts to the pitman arm. This needs to be kept snug, and greased to keep the arm from "popping off" as you experienced. If it has popped off you will probably need to rebuild the end, or replace it as the socket and ball are worn.

    Rob

That sounds about right the guy never greased a thing on that truck...He was one of these "as long as the trucks shiny" type of guy's who only cared that you looked good when you were broke down

  13. Well you have to be from some were i guess so welcome to the site and tell us all you know with plenty of photos. Photos dont lie you know. glenn

Thanks for the welcome...You never heard of Worcester Mass ?

  14. How's it going guy's ? Quick question has anyone had a draglink coming off the pitman arm break ? I had one break pulling of the scale @ the quarry, as I was pulling away I go to take a right & I noticed the steering get real light and easy, & the truck went straight, so I got out & opened the hood & the drag link was just hanging down...I just about fainted, could you of imagined what would of happened if I was on the highway or something going faster than 5 mph...By the way this was a 88' R-Model Tri-Axle dump...Just wanted to see if anyone else had a similiar experience

  15. What's up guy's I just wanted to say hello....I'm from the Boston area & have been driving trucks for 5 years now, dump trucks mainly but I tried over the road for 1 year...Anyway's I just wanted to say just from reading a few pages I was hooked...This is an awesome site with very smart & knowledgable people...Thanks for letting me on because boy do I have questions
