  1. Hi fellas, new to the Mack hobby, and heres a newbie question....I just bought a military 5 ton with a ENDT673 in it. It has (what I believe) the duplex clarifier system. My question is this....The thing is in pieces, and I wanted to know how to reassemble the rear cannister. I have the main rod, the heavy dish shaped piece of steel (is this an anti-flowback device?), and of course the can and lid with spring and bolt. What is the assembly sequence? Is the heavy metal dish go directly under the filter, or under the bolt on the rod assembly (and which way is up?)Is there supposed to be a spring there also? I noticed the cannister has a lip on the bottom, is that to retain the dish? Sorry for the descriptions of parts, as I dont know the "official" part names, so bear with me. I ask this because it seems as though some private or careless individual assembled it wrong, as the filter was damaged and crushed inside. Thanks, Russ
  2. Hi all, Another engine question...Was looking at a DM845SX today. I searched the threads here, and have many engine codes written down, but not a 45. What engine does 45 mean? Thanks for your help. Russ
  3. Hi all, My buddy and I have been eyeing up a couple dumps in the area for possible resto. The question I have is, these models are all DM's, (late 60's models) some of them have the tilt hood, and some have the "butterfly hoods, both with offset cabs. Was this a customer specification, or did Mack stop making the butterflies, or were they made together at the same time? We are looking to getting the butterfly hood, due to its more rugged, utilitarian look. I thought the tilt hoods were U models, but looking at the VIN plates, I was wrong. Some insight on this dilemma please! Happy new year, Russ
  4. I stumbed across a 1964 5 ton military truck for sale, with the 673 in it. I am seriously considering the purchase of it. My question is, were they problematic?? I heard stories from certain individuals the pumps were prone to failure. I have some experience driving the 673's and loved it, having no problems. On the otherhand, I own a 1965 Multifuel 5 ton which of course has had its share of bad publicity, but I've never had a problem with it so far for 30,000 miles, which is alot for a military vehicle. Just wanted to hear the opinions from the pros here.
