Mine is a later 63 with oilers and a TRD 72. I never knew what the other 2 was for either. I thought it may of been for a bigger input and bell for the heaver clutch ?? ......but sure don't know

517 was a 10, 500 lbs and the 522 was a 12,000 LBS axle and had bigger spindles. It was an option. I'm not sure...but think the 522 used that flat plate like axle cover that said Mack on it
NO...I got that wrong.....the 517 was a 9500 and the 535 was 10500....trying to remember too much in this burned out old brain...lol

Larry has been lookin into this for years. don't think he made much headway. I think the 517 was superceeded by the 522 after around 1962. don't quote me on this tho

Yes, I looked into it many years ago. It got complicated and after I had hubs and whole axles bought and none worked out....I finally said the heck with it......really don't need them.......but something has recently come up and I'm going to dig a little deeper. Kind of afraid that after buying hubs, drums, new studs and some wheels.... it's going to be more $$ than this poor truck driver can justify

I have a 517 front axle on a B-75 with spoke hubs. It has a 1-5/8" outside and 2-1/2" inside spindle diameter. I found some 535 aluminum budd hubs that I believe have the same spindle diameter as my 517. The early 517 used a 2-1/4" inside spindle diameter and the part number is 6 QJ 439 P1 and drum # 17 QJ 3119A-P4. Does anyone have a Mack part number for the aluminum 535 hubs and a part number for the inboard drums that will work with 517's 4" brakes and did the later 517 with the thicker spindle use the same hub/drum as a 535 ?.....This should be clear as mud !! LOL

I can see your brake light switch! Havent found mine yet!
My original stop light switch is on the inside of the left rail, around the cab mount cross member. I took it apart, cleaned and lubed it....still works many years later. The one you see in the photo wasn't from the factory. John

I could probably figure these out eventually! What are they?
Here are my guesses...
First one is relay valve to not allow front brakes (slippery normal switch on dash)
Second is the valve that gives all air to main tank before other air devices?!?
Thanks
The first is the air governor and the other is just an air junction for wipers, horn and etc.

Hello, I think it is flash chrome. I checked my guages and they are magnetic and stainless is not magnetic. Also, when I have looked at a old, tired rig, the bezels will show rust. There again stainless steel doesn't rust.
Is there different kinds of stainless ? The sun visor on my work truck ( Pete ) is suposed to be stainless...and my magnetic XM antenna sticks tight ??? Just wondering, John

I can tell you first hand, it didn't work for us !! I bought the truck with a freshly overhauled 673-P....that was supposed to be built for a turbo. Hell...I ain't a Mack mechanic and didn't know the difference.....learned a lot in a big hurry though LOL
Over the years....I've talked to three other people, that experianced the same thing with the same results...funny thing about it...the engines all ran less than a 1000 miles.
We knew something wasn't quite right...but didn't think we'd hurt much...just bob-tailing around. WRONG.. But it sure run like raped ape for a short while.
If you look in my gallery...there's a picture of one of the two pistons that broke.
Anyone that needs a good block, brand new turbo or anything off of that old engine...let me know. We're getting sick of that motor in the way all the time. It would just about kill me to scrap it..but no one seems interested. All seem to be doing what we did....go with a newer Maxidyne

Adelmans is truck heaven. They're local to me(I'm in North Canton). They have fields of trucks and parts. Makes a nice day of junk'n if you like doing that.
Larry, Do they let walk around, just looking ?? John

Scott,
Those numbers are for just the axle without spindles, brakes, etc. The FA number is for the complete axle .

That is a sharp Superliner, even with the way too big bunk. Here is a pic of my first Superdog.I picked it up 12-12-89,trading my '76 R600 for it.Traded it off 5 years later, wish I still had them both.It was a '85,E6-350 cranked up ,Dynatard,T2100 trans.,Camelback suspension, and 4:17 rears.Had 500k on it when I got it and 1,000,000 miles when I traded it.Absolutely beautiful truck to drive. There were a few of the "big riggers" that would outrun me on the flats, but I always handed them their hat on the hills, leaving a trail of coal black smoke for them to follow.
Mike, Nice old Bulldog. Looks like a truck is supose to look like. I've TRIED.....but just can't get used to a beautiful classic horse all screwed up with goddy big stacks, bumpers dragging on the ground(90% of them are bent) and chicken lites plastered all over the place. I wish they would save this stuff for the new junk.
Just my opinion....don't want to offend anyone, to each his own.

I might be wrong, but I think the B-87 uses a dropped floor pan like a B-75,73 and a 77, so if you are lucky enough to find one...make sure it's the right one.
