Can someone explain how the front 4 rigs work? If it were a train, there would be multiple unit controls in the leading unit that controlled the functions of all the other locomotives in consist. How do these rigs coordinate their power?

ON A LIGHTER NOTE, OLD MATE TURNED UP AT WORK TODAY WITH A LOAD OF FROZEN FOR US. HE WAS IN A NEW V#&%O, I SAID WHEN THE F#@K DID YOUR BOSS START BUYING THESE? (USUALLY THEY RUN WESTERN STAR, SOME KW'S) OH, HE'S HAD THE ODD ONE, WAS THE REPLY. ANYWAY, HE WAS WEARING A ''MACK'' CAP, I LOOKED AT HIM THEN THE CAP AND I TOLD NEXT TIME IF HE WEARS IT WHILE DRIVING THAT P.O.S. I'M NOT UNLOADING HIM!

THE BOTTOM LINE IS THEY MUST BE GETTING A RETURN WITH ''MACK'' BECAUSE THE BUYERS WANT THEM!!! THE F'ING R MODEL IN ALL IT'S VARIANTS DIDN'T HAVE A PRODUCTION OF 40 YEARS BY ACCIDENT!!! LIKE ALL MACKS BEFORE IT THEY ARE AS TOUGH, TOUGHER THAN ANYTHING OUT THERE!!! IF THERE IS A BRIGHT SIDE TO ALL THIS, AT LEAST THEY'RE STILL WORKING!!! PROBABLY ABUSED, BUT DOING WHAT THEY DO BEST!!! MY TWO BOB'S WORTH, MICK
P.S. BETTER TO BE WORKING THAN MADE INTO SCRAP!!!

displacement was the same,it was how they were set up,the 865 was a Maxidyne engine, engineered to be used with a 5 or 6 speed, with an operating range of 1200 to 2400 rpm ,they had 2 versions I know of for sure, most common was the 325 hp one and there was a derated 285 hp one, also
The 866 was designed as a Thermodyne engine, for use with transmissions having 10 or more gears, mostly paired withe the TRDL1070 Mack 10 speed and the TRTXL1070 12 speed Mack.Operating range was 1500 to 2300 rpm as I recall . Also offered in at least 2 versions I can remember,a 350 hp and most common was the 375 hp one.
Which one was the problem child? Or was it all of them?

This is the first 5 pages of the R series operator's handbook.
I thought some might find it interesting, and it helps reinforce the earlier post about the lighter weight RL / RS
WELL THERE YA GO! I ALWAYS THOUGHT THE RS/RL TRUCKS WERE HIGHWAY, THE R600/700 WERE HIGHWAY/HEAVY DUTY AND THE RD/DM WERE HEAVY DUTY. MY BAD!!!
