  1. Also wanted to give a picture of the two airlines in question. Thanks
  2. Happy Holidays everyone. I recently picked up this used X107a transmission and am hoping to swap out my 1078 straight 5 speed. I have several questions as this will be my first major project working on larger trucks. I took a picture of the top rear of the transmission and was wondering if anyone knows what this part is that is broken. It has two wires that were attached to it, a black and white wire? I would guess it is for the backup lights? also there is a small plug where my finger is pointing at and was wondering what that is, maybe a temp sensor or backup lights? Also there is two air lines that I don't know where they would go. One comes from the shifter and the other comes from the back valve. I would have thought that it would have only needed one main source of air coming from the air tank to transmission filter. Lastly , I had always wanted a twin stick trans. Is it as easy as getting a new front shifter lever and a new rear plate that goes to the shift forks and new rear lever? Not sure if I want to keep it an airshift or change it to twin stick. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. -Jason
  3. Yes, 3"+ that is what I am looking for. Let me know if you come across one. Also thanks for the reply on the trans, I will be getting a couple pictures in the next day or two. -Jason
  4. Rob, thanks for the quick and helpful reply. I ended up getting the transmission (X107) I did like you said and removed the two top covers and inside looked very clean. It still had a couple of inches of gear lube in the bottom. Truck was said to have 500,000 miles on it but the inside of trans looked very good, no chipped teeth, No shavings that I could find. Don't know what to look for with the shift forks but as far as I could tell other than the outside being quite dirty the inside looked very clean and felt very smooth when turning spline. This trans has a longer rear piece that then hooks up to the drive shaft. Also has a rear PTO ( with drive shaft) below on the rear. I was thinking (hoping) that I could remove the rear extender piece from the back of trans and use the one from my current 1078 also was hoping to use my newer style right side PTO. Without that rear longer piece the two trans measures the same from front to back so I would think drive shaft might not have to be modified. There Is also Two broken wires on the top of trans a black and white one that the sending unit looks like it got damaged it looks like it was plugged into the top of the rear cover (by the air shifter area) I am guessing they are to signal the backup lights. I know this is a lot of info all at once, but wanted to thank you for your help and see what you or anyone else thought. Am a little nervous about doing the swap seeing how big this thing is in person and not knowing that once it is in I might have to take it back out. Thanks again. -Jason
  5. I was hoping to find someone with a original large style pyrometer for my 87 mack R. Must work and be the larger older style. If you have anything let me know. Thanks -Jason
  6. Thanks Rob for your reply. After scraping off 1/4 of grime I found X107A on it. Now the question is what is a fair price to pay for it. It has 470000 miles on it and no way to hear, see it run. Would this be a good replacement for my single axle dump with a 300hp to replace my straight 5 speed 1078? Thank you.
  7. Hello, Can anyone help with identifying this Transmission? It is supposed to be out of an 89 mack truck that is now gone. It has maxitorque stamped on the side and the only numbers he can find is on the right side 284KB5176 and on the left side 284KB5163-p2 and under that it looks like 92A650 arrow M1 It is an airshift model with a black round top handle and the selecter moving lever that goes side to side not up and down under it. I was guessing it to be a 2050 or 2060 but he can not locate any numbers other than the ones I gave to help I.D. it. Do these numbers mean anything or is there a certian place to look to find the correct numbers. I am still thinking about replacing my basic 5speed 1078. Any help would be great. Thanks
  8. Hello Is there any danger with removing these spoke wheels? They look similar to the split rim (widow maker) wheels or they totally different? Thanks
  9. Thanks but I am looking for a plain jane, old school twin stick. I like the nastalgic idea of a twin stick (in my 23 year old truck) and it sure will be nice to have those lower gears. Is their a possibility of everything hooking up without any hangups? Will i deffinatly need to change driveshaft length? I found one an hour and a half from home that the guys says was completely rebuilt 10 years ago. He bought off a friend as a spare but never installed it, he wants $950 for it. Any advice??? Thanks everybody for your help
  10. Thanks for all the advice. Does anyone know if I should expect to run into any hang ups with the conversion? or is everything interchangeable? What should I expect to spend on a used twin stick. Any advice on how to tell by looking at one if it's in good shape, or will I not know until I run it? Thanks again -Jason
  11. Hello everyone, this is my first post. I have been reading up and learning quite a bit through your forum. I'm a long time Mack fan so this site is more than great. I have a 87 R688ST single axle Mack dump that is in great shape. I have been thinking of making a transmission change. It has a 672ci e-6 300 Mack motor with a straight 5 speed(1078). For off road work, backing with a load and just for the heck of it, I would like to put a twin stick six speed in it. The 5 speed is in great shape and I am having a little trouble justifying a swap.. However It's getting to be a long winter and it seams like it might be a good challenge with added rewards. Would anyone give me some advice on weather or not this is a good/bad idea, or if I should just leave it alone. Is it a very straight forward process for someone with good basic skills to be able to handle? Also what should I expect to spend on a used "good condition" six speed, and what would my 5 speed be worth? Thanks -Jason
