It's nice that it is a 66 - last year for the B model. Rare because most sold by that time were the R model.

Hey B53, That is a great truck to have because it is very hard to find a tandem flat bed. Everybody wants that kind of truck because it has many uses. Try to keep those older turn signal lights for they are hard to find or get our hands on. Take your time in restoring the B Model. Let us hear from you often so we can enjoy the truck with you. This is a great site to be on because many people are here to help you........I wish you would pm me asap.
mike
Iv been thinking about shortening the bed some, and putting up some poles and winch. I think that ol truck would make a cool winch truck.

this is me and my dads project, its a 1966 mack b53. the cab has rotted away becauce it spent most of its life down here in southeast texas. we had an old parts truck that had a nice cab on it, so we are working on swapping the cabs. it has the ol 673 mack diesel. the drivetrain all works well, its just the sheetmetal thats bad on this truck. ann pionters or tips would be much appritiated.

No, I'm way too busy and besides they really should be made out of stainless. We used aluminum because it was easier to work with.
The visor itself is pretty simple, building the brackets is the time consuming part.
It seems like there's dozens of companies making hundreds if different visors for Peterbilts. You'd think ONE of them could stamp out some B model visors.
i understand man. i think i might try to fab up one myself, we'll see how it goes
-
It seems that nobody is making metal visors for the B model. Here's a link to a discussion on the topic.

Here's some pictures of one that we built.
wow man that looks really nice. would you make more to sell?

Barry posted the paint code for the B model interior green a while back.

Checked into it and previous posts are correct, the B-53 was a mixer chassis. Heavy duty and light weight. No single axle, only tandem or tri-axle. The later ones may have had a quad available - I do not have that information. Not sure but it looks like it might have been a short model like the B-57. It would have been the forerunner of the DM-600 (Dump/Mixer).
it kinda looks shorter but i think its the same length as a b61.
-
I may be wrong, but I believe that the difference is that B-53's are tri-axle or quad-axle. The grill was different than the B-61.
this may not be true but from looking at the two, it looks like the b53s were made allittle more heavy duty to accomodate the heavy concrete. the b61s were used more as tractors and such.

my family has always had gm products untill the last 7 years or so.
my dad bought a brand new 94 chevy one ton dually with 6.5 gm diesel. the truck was built very well but since day one we had many many engine and tranny prblems. he replaced the dually with a 01 ford with the 7.3 powerstroke, its the best truck weve ever owned. we now have the 01 f250,a 99 f350, and 3 86 f250 work trucks. im not rantin on gm but ford is my choice.

Hi, its probably built on a B model chassis, 711? Built in 1964 and look at the badgeing.
tyhats kind of a weird lookin truck
-
well iv been talking to my dad about it and he says that it would be easier. but if its as easy as your saying it is , i might try to talk him into leaving it like it is. thanks for the suggestion.
does anyone know when the 673 or any of the engines listed above by hk trucking stopped being used? i ask cuz theres an old dm mack down the road that iv been looking at. i was wondering if it had spin on filters, i could talk to the owner and see if he would part it out. i guess i could just go down there one day and pull the hood open on it, but i dont want to piss anyone off. so if anyone knows if the dm series mack used the 673 could you tell me. thanks for all the help guys.
