  1. Can somebody help me out to determine if i got a blown headgasket or is it a cylinder liner? I have a mack cl 713 dump truck 2001, mack 460 e7 with 21000 hrs and 380 ooo miles, anyways i had a driver on the truck and he called and he said that engine shotdown came one for about 10 sec and it was gone , i didnt think it was a big deal becuase gages on the truck sometimes go crayze, anyways ten minutes later he calls me again he tells me the truck idiles rough, so i told him to take it to a delership, on the way to dealership coolant temp begun going up he shout her off, i checked coolant and i added about gallon, i checked oil and it was above full there was no sludge on cap, i put my finger in the blowby and it felt like coolant. I waited for the truck truck to cool off and i took it to a dealership,(2 miles away) the truck didnt overheat but i had to stop like 3 times to let it cool off, st the dealership they said they cant look at it till mondey, so i am just wondering if someone can tell me if its head gasket or cylinder liner'?

  5. does the temp get hotter when you run it on highway or when you going thru the city, mine is like that on the highway, i changed the theromstat, water pump, and that didnt help, i gotta granite also but mine is with 460, good luck if you find out whats wrong please let me know!

  6. Hi guys i got 2004 mack granite with 460 with a vescus fan, when i am driving on the highway, my coolant goes up to 200 and stays there then it goes to 210 and the fan kicks in, oil gets up to 230, trans temp gets up to 200 and the axles as well, i traied flushing the rad, that didnt help.

  7. That would be my suggestion. Take it to a dealership and have them get the most current software and datafiles enabled by Mack. You might have them check the programmed parameters to make sure everything is right. That shouldn't cost too much since no parts are involved. Did you buy it used? If so, did you change the application the truck is used in? A truck spec'd for highway service may not perform adequately for vocational use. Being an AI the truck should be set up for vocational applications, but people sometimes do strange things when spec'ing trucks.

i guess ill take it to mack, i didnt buy it brand new but the previous owner was doing the pretty much same thing, thanks alot guys.

  8. I have a mack granite 460 dump truck and with the load on on freeway i am having a hard time getting up to 60 mph and after maintaining the speed, my exhust temp goes up to 8 sometimes 9, and oil temp sometimes to 220, coolant runs arround 190, guys please help me out thank you

  9. The bottom exhaust manifold bolt holes in the heads are drilled all the way into the push tube opening. Oil runs down the push tube to the lifter, the oil stays there and can come out past the lower exhaust manifold stud. We remove the bottom studs and put silicone/RVT on the threads (threads of the stud only)on the stud and reinstall. It's a common problem . All ETECH style engines are like this.

Thank you very much for your help.

  10. Hello everybody I was wondering if anyone can help me out. I have a 2004 mack granit 460 today I opened the hood to check the oil anyways i noticed slight oil leak coming from exhaust manifold where it bolts on the motor. It doesnt make sence to me so i was wondering if anyone can help me out.

  11. It's OK for the oil temp to get as high as 250 with no effect on power. Mack has a service bulletin on this. Is fan clutch stayin on all the time?

No clutch fan is not staying on all the time but it comes on more offten and when i start the truck in the morning the chutch fan kicks in but i guess that normal
