the 15 was a private person but he had his own buisness if that makes sense, basicaly he was a owner operator. what is your old machine?

  2. was wondering how things are going , if you got tha 15 B back yet other than the td 8, what else do you have........Green Giant 2

no have not got it home yet. we have, 490d exc, 450c, bobcat 773 and 873, the td8e and a bobcat 341 mini exc. couple of tandems and some misc. support equipment. oh yeah and not much work:)

  3. Yes, you are correct to the point of dial indicating the bell housing to get on center and tighten the bolts. The dowl pins are critical in the support of the bell housing and transmission. After centering the bell housing and tightening the bolts, you should purchase a new pair of oversized dowl pins. Then redrill and ream existing dowl pin holes in motor and bell housing to within .002 to .003 smaller then new dowl pins diameter. This will allow you to drive new dowl pins in their bore tightly.

Note: Check bell housing face (engine side) for any wear due to previous loosening. If so, I suggest having bell housing machined to remove any wear and true up. Also check back of engine block for the same problem.

    Hope this helps!

O.k. sounds good. Now how do i find the center of crank to place my indicator? If i use a magnetic base on the back of the crank how do i know if i am truly center of crank. Do they make a speacial tool or bushing. thanks

  4. Horse power difference i can not tell you , dont have a spec sheet in front of me, but could find out.Finding out what year it is will help ,newer machines had the 407. also some of the under carrige parts on the older stuff can be crossed over to CATS nexus parts for chain and rollers..... would love to see a picture of the machine, i grew up on international harvester construction equip. TD-6 TD-9B TD-8G TD-12CXP TD-15C 500C 500E and an old TD14 thanks Green Giant2

I will get you picks as soon as the snow quits flying. I cant thank you enough for all the info. jared

do i have to bolt the bell housing first then drill? is it possible to have pins machined so that they are tight in the block(on size) and a different size in the bell housing? I used to be in the machine shop trade so i do have the ability. Now if this is not a good idea feel free to say. I just hate to drill and ream if i can get around it. Thanks again for all the help.

  6. The TD-15B's are a very good machine . IH had a good engine the 407d. it ran in many apps. the b and c series are basically the same , the 15C's had a dt 466 vs 407d. the early 15C's had 15b undercarage, but soon took on the more heavy duty stuff. on some early c's you could use 15B sprockets till they changed the dowel pins. basic frame is the same from the start of the B series till up to the end of the C series in the 90's. the trans, is very tough tranny. Is long as it is in good shape you should be able to do what you need. dont be afraid to push material in 2nd Hi, you may find that 1st Lo is to low. Are you looking for a winch for the machine, i have one that was on my 15C. It is for sale, and will bolt right up. We would push our 1951 heiliner pan, with 15 yards in the bowl.

Forgot to tell you , serial # tag is located on the cowl under the dash board and very early models had the 360d engine, still a good engine

Thanks alot, very good info, now, i had heard that some ran a 361 and some the 407, how will i tell them apart, was there a hp difference? Also, not sure if i need a winch yet, i want to get the thing home, service and check it out. I want to make sure its sound before i put any add ons into it. Thanks again!

  7. Is there a reason you can't use the flywheel housing that is on the 675 engine? terry

terry, yes, the reason is the 675 was mated to a 5 speed transmission, this bellhousing is totaly different than my trans ( i want to keep). My transmission is a quadbox, duplex or triplex ( not sure how to tell), it runs a single disk clutch, the 5 speed bell housing is deeper (to accept a 2 disk clutch)and the bolts are actually differnt size to. Side not: my trans has 1-5 plus reverse on one stick (closest to leg) the other stick has lo-lo, lo, and direct on the other stick ( farthest from you). thanks aga

  8. I just got a international td15b. Actualy i have not picked it up yet, i just want to get some advice for this weekend when i do. Were are the key serial numbers located for tracing year and engine size. I was also wondering if these were good dozers and anything (weak points, maintence issues etc.) that i should look and watch for. I currently have a td8e and i like it alot. I want to start with that, then lead up to parts and repair questions later. Thanks

  9. Alright guys you helped me out before and now i have another question for the pros. I am doing a 68 DM600, pulled out my 673e and installing a 675, i am keeping my quad box trans so i have to keep my old bell housing. Question is the dowl pins that would center my bell housing have slop in them. I have heard that you are supposed to install it and put a dial indicator on the crank to make sure it is centered, then just tighted the bolts. In my mind doing this would work but wouldnt this put all the stress on just the torq of the bell housing bolts, dont you need the dowls to actualy support and keep the motor from shifting? As always any input would be great and if you need more info let me know. Thanks

  10. Hello, I am new here and love the site. I have a 68 DM600, I am replacing the 673 nonturbo motor with a 675 turboed out of a U model. I want to keep my quad box trans. To do this i have to keep my 673 bell housing and flywheel, question is, the 673 ran a single disk clutch, the 675 ran a 2 disk clutch with the 5 speed. Will a single disk clutch hold the torque and horsepower of the 675, and will the quad box handle the added power. Any info would be helpful. Thanks
