Hes having the mod done  himself ! Can't tell ya that at the moment  I will ask!  You are correct the turbo inlet is restrictive I agree with your prognosis  AND I'm not positive he isn't having other mods done!   As Zak stated His boost is at a more normal  33 Usually you got to add fuel to get boost ! So that said Unless I'm getting BS Numbers on the boost! I  have to see ? I will see what kind of pyro he's seeing?  All this  is here say At this point!  It Maybe his 42 is actually 32 in which case Its in the ball park! I would like to drive this my self and see what is actual happening ! I'm wondering if they are not giving the turbo a chance to cool after a work out causing this life shortening of the turbo ! Also!  If this thing was over fueling I would expect to see Blue Manifold and turbo snail evidence!  These look normal they haven't been getting hot! how ever if it is ramming air in at 42 psi we might not see this heating evidence !

    Just my observations!

Hey Fred is his manifold cracked? I know these stock manifolds like to crack with even moderate amounts of heat since I'm ready for my third one now and would be a telltale if he is pushing the numbers he is claiming

  2. E-tech engines run a different compression ratio as well as different unit pumps but fjh is correct that that the AC cam will work and eliminate the EGR in an AI engine. Next step up would be oversize injectors and a larger turbo

  3. The truck burns around 10% less fuel to do the same job as before. Has a little more low end grunt and the EGTs dropped about 200 degrees. Never had it dynoed before but after my AMI 370 made 365hp to the ground which I didn't think was too bad

  4. Well that shows how smart the service manager is if he says that it's too much truck for the tranny. 70000 lbs isn't a lot of weight and we know these engines don't make enough power to break anything. Swapping to a Mack 13/18 won't do you any good as you will have the same problems with the range shift. If you want to spend money and getting a more reliable set up you'll have to get a reman Fuller 8ll/15/18 and do the swap.

  5. Black smoke under load at low rpms is pretty normal for the AI engines, but going from the AI-427 to the AI-460 will require a different turbo in addition to a software chage. For what its worth the AI-460s aren't that impresive the suffer from the same problems you describe with the power being up in the top rpm range. It may sound odd but you may want to look at changing it to the AMI-370 setup, it has a little less peak power but pulls over a wider range.

  6. I have a T310MLR and I like it. I have it matched up with a 370 maxidyne and it pulls kinda like the old 285/6spd combination. The gaps between gears can be a little large since the new motors dont pull quite as well as they used to. As far as splitting the gears is concerned you could do it but there wouldn't be much point as the gap would still be pretty much the same.
