  1. Look up the Allison website, there's a video there of two dump trucks driving fully loaded through "pea stone". The standard shift makes it about a third of the way through while the Allison equipped truck drives right on through non stop!

I know it's comparing apples to oranges but we've moved to all Allison fleet of medium duty tow trucks and have had no problems and nothing but praise for them! Just remember to change fluid and filters (an easy job) when recommended, and spend the $$$ for the fully synthetic fluid. I bet you'll be glad you switched!

  2. My main concern was that the red marking on the linings were on opposite ends of the shoes. One shoe had red marking closer to the anchor pin and the other shoe had red marking closer to the s-cam roller pin. So I was worried that maybe they were a combination lining and thus the one shoe would be primary and other shoe secondary. I've looked all over the Meritor website but they don't seem to indicate that they should be installed in any specific position so I've gone ahead and installed them without regard to primary or secondary shoe. Everyone's response here has reinforced my instinct that they should work OK however they're put on.

    Thanks for the input everyone!

  3. There is no leading or trailing shoe, they are the same. The color on the edge along with the printing is simply for identification. How much difference is there in the thickness?

If it is alot it is possible they mixed Q and Q+ shoes in the same box. I was never impressed with they quality of Meritor reman shoes.

The kit was supposed to be Q+ shoes, the difference is noticeable but not huge, prob 1/8" at most. I'm just trying to make sure they wear evenly so I can get the most mileage possible. The old ones wore down so they were pretty even across the length of the web's arc, makes it hard to match old shoes to the new ones.

  4. Hi guys, I realize this is a simple question but I just can't seem to find the answer anywhere. I'm doing a brake shoe replacement on S-cam brakes using Meritor reman shoes. The cam is located in front of the axle, and I realize the primary shoe should go in the bottom position (first shoe past the cam in direction of wheel rotation). But which shoe is the primary? One shoe has thicker material than the other, does that make it the primary or secondary? Also I've noticed that on each shoe, one lining block is colored red on the edge. One shoe has the red lining closer to the cam, the other shoe has the red lining closer to the anchor. I think the red lining is a different frictiion material, but again I can find no information on whether that is the "leading" or "trailing" edge to the shoe. The shoe kit came with no information about primary or secondary. The Meritor brake service guide only mentions a difference between the two when shoes with electronic lining indicators are concerned.

    Any suggestions?

I guess everybody not on the GIMME list is BAD

20 years ago these were considered part of the moral fiber that made America a great nation. Now it's putting you on the "suspicious" list. . . . might as well include everybody who Pledges the Flag and prays to God an automatic domestic terrorist . . . . . I'm still coping with the direction this country has taken and have a hard time believing it on a day to day basis. . . . .

  6. Beautiful pinstriping work on the Superliner, I do believe I've passed that truck more than once along 495 in my travels over the years . . . . best of luck with that restoration, I'm sure it'll be just as great if not better than the B61 you and your father proudly display!

  7. Remember to remind all, that the election also affects new EPA regulations he has on hold that cover energy, farm dust, to EPA control of all waters in the U.S.A. down to your farm pond. UN treaties from computer usage to guns, possible UN taxes.

The ringer is the appointment of 3 to 4 Supreme Court Justices and Eric Holder as Chief Justice.

Our election is now going to be "monitored" by 44 U.N. people from Asia, Africa and Europe...at the request of??

On Twitter today, The New Black Panthers and the Muslim Brotherhood are promise to kill Romney and have massive riots if he wins the election. Threats to revolt....no?

Those are some scary promises looming on the horizon if this pin head gets re-elected. However, monitoring by 44 U.N. folks, and Twitter threats from Panthers and Brotherhood do indicate one promising thing - they're getting scared in the 11th hour, which means WE HAVE A GOOD CHANCE AT GETTING RID OF THIS EMPTY SUIT!!!

At least that's my take on it.

  8. Well from what I've read online, those NYC Transit trucks with the WeldBilt bodies are pretty bullet proof, and usually well maintained throughout their lives.

You really seem to like those cabover models I see

  9. That Volvo rollback is kinda neat looking, how hard is it to get parts for them? As was mentioned earlier they seem to be extinct now and I wonder if parts availability (or lack thereof) helped to weed them out of the used market. I know about 7 years ago I towed one to the local junkyard that needed a ton of work, it was an oil tanker so the repair estimate must have been pretty high to let it go to the scrapper for the cost of a tow (this was when iron was still a depressed market).
