I acquired this Mack last year in 2022 and finally got to go for a little drive last weekend. It was short and didn’t get to go real fast but damn did me and my 11yr old have fun. Can’t wait to get her out on the road and take her for a real test drive. I remember going to work with my dad and riding around in big trucks when I was a kid and to own a truck and have a kid that loves this stuff as much as I do is such an awesome experience.

You guys need to ease up about that seat. It is/was a Bostrom Westcoaster, not the lowly Viking T-bar. Good seat.....in its day.... 🙂
fixing those seats is going to be one of the first things I do. Hopefully the seat still functions well so I can use and keep this thing as original as possible

Easy fix on the ass pan. About 10 minutes with a vacuum and your done. Nice looking R, just a small amount of TLC and you'll be turning heads on the roads. Keep up the good work.
Thanks. Just waiting for the weather to clear and find some time to transport it to the shop then I’ll get after all of that.

You should post up some pics of the interior when you get a chance.

I looked around and I could replace the air cleaner but I think I’m just going to keep the setup I have. I want it to look as original as possible so I think I’m just gonna keep it. I was hoping for a trick to modify the current housing but I don’t want to alter anything to much.

Been contemplating this change on my truck for years. Haven't wanted to cut the original yet, been hoping to find a used SS model that might fit well. I know Watts used to offer a dry filter set up but is a bit pricey these days.
I know oil bath is supposed to be better but I know my 237 sure does pull a lot of oil through the intake pipe.
Seeing how I plan on keeping it all stock then I might just leave it the way it is. Keeps with the authenticity.

Just be aware that there is a great amount of competition out there and white gloves will be used.
It’s gonna be awhile before I’m worried about white gloves. I plan on taking it to shows so just gonna concentrate on getting it there first.

not sure 69 was supposed to be the darker shade almost military but that one clearly looks lighter....its supposed to look like your blower motor.good luck.bob
Well I’m glad it’s the lighter green, because I don’t like that dark color at all.

Has anyone modified the oil bath air cleaner? I like the look and don't want to get rid of that setup but would like to add an actual filter. Just wondering if anyone had some ideas.

If it's the lighter, non-metallic green it's Mack paint code 808 Light Mint Green. If it's the metallic like B models then it's Axalta 44419 Frost Green Metallic.
😳I’m not sure the difference. Guess I’ll have to look more into that. Thanks for the info.

If you can take a sample with you when you visit your local Auto Paint Store, then your ahead of the game.
Ok thanks. Didn’t know if there was a secret out there I should know. Lol

So got my 1969 R611T and the interior is still the original green which I love. There’s a few spots that need touched up from normal wear and I was wondering if there was a place that had that color or if I need to just get it color matched from someplace that sells auto paint? TIA

Take off in a gear that you don't have to ride the clutch. My B can go as high as third low bobtailing.
Whats the saying.....ass for every seat? Looks like that seat had every ass in it!! Lmao!!
Yea I hate riding clutches cause I’m the one that replaces them lol. The seat met its demise at the hands of a couple of raccoons that got in the cab and couldn’t get back out. They died in there but not before they shredded the seat. The seat was probably wore out but not in pieces haha. Luckily everything is metal so they didn’t hurt anything else.

I was told by the owner that this truck is really low geared and that you just took off in low shifted the main through the gears and then shifted to high.

10 speed direct. That's the "Duplex". You can split each gear for a total of 10 forward. 2 reverse. So, yes, a TRD-72 or -722. Probably -722. Could be the "L" or not. Depends on the case material.
the 9 speed (-720 or 7220) was direct in 4th, overdrive 5th, so you typically skipped Lo-5th (duplicate of Hi-4th). Just went from Hi-4th to Hi-5th.
Mack boxes are "married" boxes, with the compound bolted directly to the main. Not remote mounted like a typical "Brownie" (Named after the Brown-Lipe brand).
I always loved the split-shifting instructions they gave (like on the bottom of snowdog's post). They show shifting the main box first in all cases. I never found that to be true. If down-shifting the main and upshifting the compound, I found it better to upshift the compound first, then double-clutch and downshift the main last. Reason is simple. If you have enough RPM available to downshift the main first, then why even bother splitting it! Just downshift the main and put your foot back in it. So, I always upshifted whichever box was going up first, then downshifted the other. Worked better. If you learn really well, you do them simultaneously. But, when you miss one, it's hilarious for everybody else to watch as you try to get them back in, stop, and start all over. Ask me how I know that!
In reality, you don't need to split the gears most of the time. You can usually stay in Lo, use 1-5 in the main, then shift to Hi. Probably start off in 2nd even.
Anyway, I love that truck. Steel dash. Green interior. 2 sticks (a Mack-must!), and a single axle. Just love it! Kinda jealous!😁
Thanks for the info. I also love this truck lol it was love at first site.

I would suggest that you sprayed for hornets They set up camp in my DM every year on the clock ha ha that thing looks amazing best of luck to you partner you’re really not going to need a whole lot to get her in shape from what I see the truck is in a lot better shape than mine is… mine needs a lot of work but thank God it’s all a lot of small stuff just mainly elbow grease bob
I’m not to worried about the hornets, nothing some spray can’t take care of. Mine has a Mack 10 speed, it’s a 5 speed and two speed brownie. Not sure what the model of transmission in it is, I’ll have to figure all that out later. Good luck with the work on yours, hopefully I’ll be starting on mine soon.
