  1. for the hood emblem is there a specific type of bulldog that i'll have to get if so where can i get it

    The truck looks good!!! Congratulations!!!

Here's a picture of the older style Bulldog. This one's off by 57 B model. I think it's the same as what your truck would have come with. The older Bulldog is just a little different from the newer one and I don't think the older style ones are available anymore.

The newer Bulldogs don't look a whole lot different but I'm not sure if the mounting holes line up or not. I'm sure someone else will know.

  2. I have an account in my personal name through Missouri

How much trouble is it to get and maintain an IFTA account?

rwmindy, thanks for the write up. I did some research a while back and came up with similar information. I did notice that one of the DOT guideline articles said that you could win trophies or even modest cash prizes with a race or show car and still be considered to be a non-commercial operation. They did say that if you have sponsors names advertised on your trailer, that would put you into the commercial category.

I printed up some of the info and carry in the truck with me.

I know it's probably best to stop at scales but I'm just driving on past with my little B model. If I had a larger looking truck I'd probably pull in. :idunno:

  3. Thanks for all the replies.

We went to the local cruise night and the Mack was a real crowd pleaser.

I've been driving some nice old cars for a long time now but nothing seems to get peoples attention like the old B model does.

An old friend gave us a brass Mack emblem that he has had for years. We put it on the sun visor. I have no idea what year or model of Mack it came from. :idunno:

The truck's running great! We just got the air conditioning charged and it's blowing ice cold. Just in time, we're leaving on a trip of about 750 miles later this week.

I'll try to get a few more pictures in the next few weeks.

  4. Congratulations! :dwave:

That's a lot of truck for the money. :thumb:

With a little work you should be able to get it running.

Northing's impossible, if necessary you can cut the rusty frame off and weld on a rear section from another truck.

You can just clean the truck up and paint it with a brush or give it a total restoration. Either way, it'll look great because it's a B model Mack. :SMOKIE-LFT:

  5. As a firefighter, I hate to see an old piece of apparatus cut up, but you did an amazing job on this truck. Where did you get the LED's?

Yeah, I felt bad about using a fire engine. We were looking for a regular tractor but this truck came along.

We got the LED lights from our local Western Star dealer. They're made by Maxxima but most of the major lighting companies make similar lights.

Jim, I can't wait to see that in person!!! Come on June..............LOL (that's the Gasser Reunion, right?)

    Yep!!! June 4th, 5th and 6th!!! :thumb:

I'll be there for sure. I hope you can make it.

  6. We painted the bumper and I think it looks pretty good. :thumb:

It would have been nice to get it chromed but that would have been too expensive.

We added some aluminum checker plate to the top and installed a couple of fog lights.

We also added a strip of metal to the bottom so that we could install some small LED clearance lights. We only had three lights but we'll pick more up tomorrow to fill the other holes.

  7. i now have a 13spd no overdrive and 393 ratio it seems to do a great job at any speed.and it gets better mpg at 70 mph than 60 mph. and pulls like it's pissed off.

    If you're running 11R 22.5 tires, with a direct drive 13 speed and 3.93 gears engine's turning 2,200 rpm @ 70 mph.

My guess is you have an overdrive. :idunno:

  8. We got the bumper mounted today. The original plan was to mount the air to air intercooler behind the bumper but after looking it over we would have had to use a really wide bumper. We would have also had to have spaced the bumper out quite a bit and it would have had to have a large hole in the center for air flow.

So, we went with plan B and decided to move the intercooler to a spot under the box. We'll use electric fans for air flow.

We ended up using the bumper from the International bus we got for parts. It was too wide so we cot 4 1/2" out of the middle and welded it back together. We also filled all the fog light and tow hook holes to give it a smooth look.

I'd love to chrome it but we'll settle for silver metallic paint.

  9. Thanks for all the comments, it's nice to finally be putting this thing back together.

Well, guess we know who's truck will be parked out front at Thompson this year :thumb:

Pete will send me out to the back 40.....

Fantastic work. I've thought of putting a radio in my truck........but would NEVER be able to hear it :pat:

I'll be out in the back 40 with the 348/409 group. I hope you make it to Thompson.

I used to have an old Autocar with a 335 Cummins and no muffler. It was so noisy that I had to pull over to the side of the road to hear the CB radio. :(
