  1. Don't know if much of you watch Fox news but there were four high school students that were threatened with suspension on May 5th which is Cinco De Mayo for wearing t-shirts with the American flag on them. They were pulled into the principal's office and were told to turn their t-shirts inside out because it was disrespectful to the Mexican students who were celebrating Cinco De Mayo. The students refused to do so because they thought they were showing patriotism for the U.S. They were then sent home for refusing to comply with the principal's request. Maybe I'm the only one here but I've always thought that if people have come here from another country then obviously they would be patriotic towards America since they have the opportunity to have freedom and chase their dreams. I have no problem with them celebrating their heritage but don't knock the U.S. The fact that people have come here in search of something better would tell me they weren't content where they had come from. Be proud of your new country and for all of the opportunities you now have. Next they'll be taking down the American flag on those days I guess. Still proud to see a certain court Judge here in my town still makes people stand and recite the pledge of allegance every Friday morning when I'm in there. Sure he'll be getting some flack for that in the future.

  2. Thanks for the help. Anybody ever been to a site called metalmeet.com? Got on there last night, great pics of restoration projects people have done. Didn't see any big trucks but some very talented metal workers out there. Makes me feel like I did everything wrong on mine so far though. Seems like a great site for anybody wanting to learn sheetmetal fabrication, similar to this one with different forums and chat rooms. Check it out..

  3. I'm having some issues doing some bodywork on my H-63. I've done all the patch panels from the windshield down. I'm starting to do some body filler and need some pics especially of the sides of the truck from the bottom of the cab to just above the doors, mainly from just behind the doors to the back of the cab. I can't tell for sure if just behind the doors if the sheetmetal is supposed to begin to roll inward towards the front of the truck. It seems 6" to the rear of the cab from the rear door jam my sheetmetal flattens out until 24" to the rear from the jam and then begins to roll to the rear of the cab. It may not seem too important but I'm wanting to be as origianl as possible on the cab. From the middle of the sleeper up to the vents on the sleeper, the metal was stretched pretty good and had the "oil can" effect going on. I shrunk it back so that's gone but it definitely needs some straightening now. It would be nice to see another H model in person so if anybody feels the need to visit beautiful Bakersfield, Ca. you're welcome as long as you bring your H model with you. As many front to back, back to front or whatever H-mopdel pics would be appreciated. My body work is on hold until I get some because I don't want to start guessing at it. Shoot me an email @ aingram@bak.rr.com. Thanks alot, Tony

  4. Our great governor here in California just signed a bill to limit the amount of ammunition a person can purchase to 50 rounds per month. If you decide to take your kids out target shooting with say a .22 that means you'd better stock up for several months or you'll be driving back home pretty quick. The bill was never put out to the public only until it was signed by the "Terminator". This is pretty discouraging for us Californians who have a small crime issue to say the least. As a member of law enforcement I have a hard time believing that the criminals are going into to hunting stores, purchasing weapons and waiting the mandatory two weeks to receive them. Same with the ammunition, I don 't think too many of them are helping out our local business owner by buying the ammunition from the stores either. There are plenty of thugs selling this stuff out of the trunks of their cars to these gang bangers and the only people being hamstringed by this bill is the every day joe trying to protect his property and family. As a California native I know alot of people think we are a bunch of liberals but it's quite the opposite. There are alot of avid hunters that live here and alot of registered gun owners. Don't think that this kind of "big brother" handcuffing won't soon make it's way into your state. Gun owners need to band together and voice their opposition to this kind of stuff. There's already talk about limiting the amount of guns you can own here in the state so I wouldn't be surprised to see that in the near future. Like my dad always told me, the only way they're taking my gun from me is by prying it from my cold, dead hand!

  5. I said screw it and just converted my H-63 to 12 volt negative ground. I had too many problems with the series parallel switch. Got an alternator and started for a few hundred bucks. Now I can actually understand it.. I know Tom Gannaway has a wiring schematic on oldmacksrus.com if I remember right..

  6. I'm on the hunt for a good metal guy here in town now. Should be able to find one. I thought it would be just as easy to make new ones rather than try to save the originals. They're pretty simple fenders. I'll see what the difference would be between new and repaired ones. Didn't think I'd have much luck finding any fenders anyway. Had a hard enough time finding this truck. I'm gonna try and post some pics of my body work progress in the next couple of days. It's crazy how different it's looking with new panels on even though they're just rough finished still. I'm getting excited, should be onto the upper door sill area and roof by next week sometime. I'm not letting any grass grow under my feet on this thing. Can't wait to tear out the floorpan, that will be a breeze compared to all of these curved panels...

  7. Is it just me or can nobody else look at their own or other member's photo galleries? Whenever I click on somebody's photo gallery or even mine, it says a fatal error has occurred and won't show any pics. I can look at pictures that are posted with new topics or the random gallery images but can't look at other member's personal photo galleries.Am I doing something wrong or what? I'm not very computer saavy so try and keep it simple please..

  8. Well I still haven't posted any new pics of my sheetmetal progress on my H-63. I'll get to it pretty soon. Making good progress and it's turning out pretty good. I'm having to replace a ton of body panels but a donor cab wasn't really an option since there are none out here. My fenders are pretty much shot. Each fender has atleast three patch panel areas on them not including a bucket of bondo. Looks like someone got really pissed and beat the hell out of them with a ballpeen hammer. I don't think I can save them. Thought about just trying to make new ones but I'm going to give it a try and ask if anybody has or knows where I can get two fenders for my girl. Let me know please.

  9. That truck is cherry compared to what I got myself into. All you have to do is see the potential. My friends thought I was crazy when I brought mine home, come to think of it I think I thought I was crazy especially after it was all stripped down. Close to half of my cab will have to have all new sheetmetal just to get started. Alot of the cab framework is rotted away so it has to be replaced and hopefully can get it back to the shape it was supposed to be. I'm learning you just have to be patient and jump right in, don't be afraid to learn new things. I'm doin all the sheetmetal work myself so when I'm done I'll know every square inch of the truck. That's half the fun though is fixin them up. Be sure to post pics of your progress, it helps me feel like I can get mine done some day..

  10. If yer ever looking to pull your column from your H model, take the three bolts loose from the steering box that bolts it to the lifter arms. Take the grille out and if you hold your nose just right you can slip it down through the floor and out the front grille area. Took me long enough to figure it out but now we know how it comes out.. The cab has to be in the tilted position to do it though.

  11. Hi all,

well I've got my cab completely stripped inside and out on my H-63. One problem that I have is I can't figure out how to pull the column up through the floor so I can lift the cab off. The column goes down through the floor and into a steering box that mounts on the up/down cab lifter arms. There are four bolts that bolt the column to the steering box but there is a 8"x6" or so flange at the bottom of the column. It won't allow me to pull the column up through the floor. I can't see what holds the column to the flange, I'm assuming it's all one piece but that doesn't make much sense. I would have to lift the cab up high enough to go over the entire steering shaft so there's a trick that I don't know about, atleast I'm hoping. I've taken the steering wheel and bearing off already so the outer tube wobbles back and forth but still can't fit up through the floor. Even if it did, the steering shaft needs to come out also. Anybody ever taken one of these out? Don't know if it's similar to a B model or something else. HELP....I want to get this cab off so I can start my sheet metal replacement and get this show on the road, thanks Tony...

im looking to build an h-series from scratch. could you please send me some pictures.more the better

It's great to hear, we need more of these trucks on the site. There is only three registered on here if I'm correct. Mine is pretty much stripped down to next to nothing now. I have some older pics of it and some that a few guys have sent me. It's hard to find any info on these H models, especially the H-63. I've seen a few H-67's for sale on here, I think there was one posted a few weeks ago down in Georgia. I'm in california and they're non-existent out here. They've changed this site and I'm re-learning how to go through it. I have some pics posted in my gallery if you can figure out how to check them out. I've posted atleast thirty or so but I can't figure out how to go through the pages to check them all out, that's changed too. I found a 57' H-63 cab in Denver for sale a few months ago. The thing was all there and in great shape, only $400. I called the guy and he told me he had crushed it two days earlier. That sucks cause mine has alot of rust issues. I have to replace all kinds of sheetmetal and the floor. I'm in the process of doing that right now. There is a guy in Ohio that has a complete running gear, moter running only missing the cab that he'll sell for 2,000 I think. Also vanscottbuilders on this site has a 56' H-63 that would be a good project. He was interested in selling it a few months ago. Thinking he wanted $2,500 for it and it was complete. Also go to bradsclassictrucks. He has an H-63 that's really rough for sale. He has some good pics on some H models he has restored. Go to youtube and punch in mack H-63. Brad restored a 54' H-63 and there is a short video of it, it's an awesome truck. Keep in touch and I'll try to hunt down some pics for you, go H models owners. Going to try to get an H model registry on here, we H model guys need to stick together. These were some of the rarest models and hardly any are still around. Only 4,091 H-63's were built from 54'-58' and a little over 6k H-67's.

  13. Hi all,

I'm looking for any information on Mack's H-63 model. I received some information from the Mack museum on mine but am looking for any detailed information that I can get ahold of about that particular model. Since I am in the process of restoring mine and plan on keeping her for a long time, I'd like to learn as much about this model as possible. if anybody has information, pics, literature or is just an H-63 Guru, please let me know. The only thing I've found on the net is production #'s from 54' to 58'. I'd also like to start a registry for all of the H models. Let me know, thanks.

    Tony
