  1. Hi guys working through some ideas on my grandfather's old Mack Restore, should I just sandblast, paint and repair this rear? Or option 2; find a wrecked late model Pinnacle and cut the rear frame, off and weld it to the old girl? Has anyone done this to a Mack? I know EZrider on YT did it with his "Old Red 359" rebuild. Overall, for a 30-year-old truck it's in pretty good shape, just in dire need of some TLC.

  3. I have been arguing with my father about rebuilding and restoring my grandfathers 1991 Mack CH600. It has a Mack E7-400 runs good but shows its age being a 31 year old truck with 2,069,000+ miles on it. I want to put it back on the road hauling bulk grain/fertilizer and livestock.

1.) Am I crazy for wanting to do this vs buy a new/newer truck?

    2.) Can I swap the E7-400 for an E9?

3.) Best locations to get parts for the body, cab and sleeper?

Thanks everyone for helping make this kids dream come true!

  4. Hello,

I've been on here a while just pursing comments and now I have a question. My grandfather bought this truck brand new in 1991 and I would like to restore this truck and take it over the road again. We still use it on the farm but its been neglected. As the title says its has an E7 and I know there are different types of E7s can someone tell me how I can know which version I have? Also a good source for interiors for this model of truck? She is solid and any problems we've had have been from lack of basic maintenance.

    Thanks for all your help!

I know I did but can't say for certain now. I'll go back through some photos later today. Basically if you look online these were duplicates of what I had seen on factory installs with the two offset bend risers and either a stiffener tube down low running at an angle, or an "X" bracing between the two risers. I'm thinking there was an 8.25" offset to the outside of the truck to clear the sides of the bunk and run guards on the mufflers I favored. Used to get all exhaust products from Jim Hawk as they were Donaldson dealers back then. I don't know about now however.

    Thank you.

I'm surprised at that. There is a large reinforcing plate on some cabs that is internal and behind the trim cards that spreads the pull over the back of the structure. I've seen some cabs with it, some without, and never knew why.

I don't like cab mounted exhaust from the R model days of fixing them. As all know they were steel cabs and stronger in that application when new than aluminum or fiberglass to mount to. Seen a bunch of them busted out, (vocational trucks) over the years so kinda adopted the bracing that the later models used with vertical risers which can be made very stout.

I've never worked on a Granite so cannot answer for their construction at all. In fact limited CH series came through the shop and that's been a long time ago now.

Rob do you have any pictures of the risers that you used for mounting beside the cab?

  7. I'm looking for a solid truck with sleeper, would like 450+ hp and 18 speed transmission, 4 axle would be nice. I would like something I could put to work right away and also pretty up into a working show truck. Probably never show it but I want it to be nice, mostly hauling grain in hoppers and belts.

Yes I still have it ,and no its not for sale,my son has promised to dig a big hole and bury me in it when I die.

I just wondered where you where or if you'd be at any shows in IA, I just want to see it. Hope to find one someday but not today. I can get an excavator if he needs it LOL
