  1. I don't have much of an answer. The time to buy something is when it is for sale.I looked for three years to find my R with a 5 speed. At that point price was somewhat secondary. I would say look at what is out there and when its the right one for the right price you will know. These are not logical purchases, so trying to be logical isn't really a thing. We all buy what we buy for the joy of having it. So if it makes you happy, go for it.

So true Mr Buck, this bulldog business these days has more to do with pleasing keyboard warriors, as does the mud flaps and the way dogs face, oh and the dogs on the mirrors

End of the day most of the clowns making a big deal about this rubbish have probably never owned or driven a Mack

We dont buy a Mack because of the colour of the dog, the way dogs face on the mirror or mud flaps, we buy them because they are tough, reliable and get the job done, oh and because they are the best trucks ever built

The gold/chrome dog thing reminds me of the other heavily opinionated topic. Mud flaps and the way the dog faces. Both chrome and gold look nice. I’d just have them match and don’t worry about the rest.

Probably the best advice Ive ever read on here. At the end of the day it doesn't make a bit of difference.

The door dogs seem to be hit and miss

my observation is the the steel dash and early larger cab had them and they seemed to disappear when the front cab mounts were changed

Thank You. Hit or Miss seems to be a fair number of things. LOL. I am by no means an expert, but that was kind of my observations too.

  5. I have a 72 R685ST. It id Mack from tip to stern. At one point someone put Chrome instead of gold Dog on hood. The doors are also sporting chrome Dogs. Should those be gold as well? Second part of question. I see so many Rs without door emblems. Is that depending on the years or simply were removed and not put back on at some point? Thank You

Sorry!  I was suggesting you had so many trucks you can't get them all inside!

I had a friend once who bought a metal building that used to be a machine shop.  He finished one corner (2-3 rooms) and left the rest of it as a shop.  I always thought that was the ultimate dwelling.  I suggested this to my wife...but she did not share my enthusiasm for the idea.

I'd love to see more pics of that one in your avatar.  Looks nice from what I can see there.

I think Many of us have had that conversation with our wives. though I would venture for most it did not go over well.

Mr Hansen was the man in charge  while I was  employed at Mack ; can't remember seeing the publication. does it have a date

No Dates. No copy write date. Not even a published by. Which is what made me think it was an in-house thing.

  8. I ended up with a short book about Zenon C. R. Hansen. It is 16 Pages long No title on cover Just a white embossed Sticker of the Mack Bulldog. Anyone seen this before? I am guessing its Mack published propaganda?. Its pretty cool to me.

A little off topic but... Here in AZ No historical Plates on anything over 10,000 lbs (Total weight) so no truck trailer combinations. Have to use a standard Commercial Plate over 10,000 lbs. There is a one time Permanent trailer plate for under "declarered" 10,000 lbs. My trailer is 9640 lbs empty. I put 10K on the trailer and 70K on the Mack, $1540.00 per year registration for weight. The show trucks don't pull trailers so just put 12K lbs on for weight and like $40 per year registration.

That said, the point is (hauling race car) is a no, no here without DOT Numbers. Best to have PLAIN truck and trailer, NO STICKERS or anything. Tucson is the worst in AZ. I have seen it a few times down by the race tracks. Enclosed Race trailers (with contingence stickers) and open trailers with races cars (some with contingences stickers some without) pulled over by  AZ State Troopers (They are Pricks). Reason you are making money with the use of the truck and trailer. You win one round for say $20 plus maybe contingence money, have to have a commercial plate and DOT Numbers for commercial use. So yes races do get busted for the stupid stuff just to have a little fun. Sort of like having a patrol car outside the local bar but race track instead.

Totally off topic: Got pulled over in Tucson of all places. Trooper: You know why I pulled you over, Me: I have no clue to why you pulled me over. The Reason and Last thing on my mine: No mud flaps on a 1 Ton dully. I did have a Race engine in the bed and getting off the next exit to the dyno shop. Think they just hate Races there. I said it did not come with mud flaps so why do I have to put them on to come though Tucson? Not even jacked up from stock height but Trooper said I was. Trooper said: Well seeing you are from up North in Scottsdale, I can just impound it or you got 24 hours to get them on and show proof or get an out of service registration notice until they are on.  Had them on the next day.

I am going through registration in CT. I had to submit a notarized letter saying This vehicle will be used to attend car/truck shows and the occasional drive for pleasure. It will in no way be used in the furtherance of business and is specifically for personal use. This allows me to not have a DOT number and use Classic plates. I haven't started looking for a trailer yet, so I have no idea on that aspect.
