can't answer the paint color question ; my question (known as off topic ) is on that old fontaine 5th wheel how would you do a rebuild if the legs are welded to the slide plate. . center 2 in cross shaft looks a tag worn also. not a major deal many were welded on one end. some one on here will have your answer for paint.
Yes the old Fontaine is showing its age.
my thoughts are to cut the welded on metal on the leg ends. That would allow me to remove the slide plate.
I fear the cross shaft had become frozen in place, when you move the hitch plate the whole shaft moves.
I am going to take it as far apart as I can. Sandblast and make repairs the repaint it red.
The truck has historic tags / insurance so it will not be working, just a toy. One day when it finds its next caretakers we will inform then of the condition of the 5th wheel. -

older Macks the clutch was adjusted using exterior linkage/ clutch brake internal adjustment. the spicer clutch in most Macks just the opposite adjustment procedure; brake exterior adjust first then internal clutch adjust. you do not have a spicer clutch. If the clutch is working proper under load ,just doesn't allow for going into gear ; i would check the clutch brake adjustment in bell housing. loosen lock nut , turn out threaded bolt ONLY a little does alot.
I am not sure my truck has a clutch brake. It’s a single disc.

When I say “ not releasing” it is not stuck. The manual says move gear shifter to 5th gear until light raking is felt. Then press clutch pedal slowly until it will shift into. 5th gear. Should be about 1/2 way to floor.
on my I can go to floor with clutch and wait about 20 seconds before transmission stops and engages. -

getting weak meaning it's slipping under load? the CL28 isn't a good reference to me ; many others on here can translate that number to a single or double disc. i would think it's a mack clutch not spicer or other brand. possibly lipe
It is not releasing. It is a single disc

The clutch in my B61 is getting weak. It’s a CL28 clutch with the 711 and tri-plex transmission.
we have made adjustments according to the manual but didn’t help much.
I am trying to decide on replacing it myself or finding a local shop to do the work.
is it even possible to buy a new disc, pressure plate and throw out bearing?
Any thoughts or advice on the subject would be great appreciated. Mark- 2

Interested but Pa. is a long way from Missouri. I used to live in Corry about 35 miles south of Erie.

Hello, I am from mid Missouri. I remember when I was a kid playing in the trucks in my uncles salvage yard. All my uncles were truck drivers. I always said someday I would own a B Mack. Well now I am 50 and the time has come to find my Mack. Found this web site in a search for a truck. Look forward to getting my hands on one of these trucks
