  1. My Dad had Double Eagle "recondition" a 36" for his 87' R model, and had them install it. The seal you are speaking of only lasted a few years, and they were of no help in coming up with a replacement one. We thought that bellows type would be best , but we could not find one the right size. The quality of their "recondition" was piss poor. They forgot about all the sleepers they put on R models back in the day. It seems to me they only want to deal with show trucks. Thanks, Brad

may be able to offer my two cents worth in here Stork , replaced my Cab to Bunk "seal " for want of a better term almost 6 years ago an used a fabric backed vynal material ( used here in Aust for fabric ute bed " Tarps " but assume you guys have " Curtain Sided Trailers ( Tautliners ) or even synthetic open top ( FlatTop ) Tarpaulin materiel will work jus as fine an outlasts rubber by a huge degree due to that fabric having Ultraviolet blockers in its construction. Get your Trim Shop or tarp manufactuer to stich you up a Loose Sock or band that will span space between cab and bunk allowing movement of two ( even more so if Bunk is mounted to frame independant of Cab ) with width including material to fit under aluminium moulding on both cab and bunk. Ensure joint or overlap is at bottom of opening to elimminate any chance of water ingress. When i did mine i had it done in two layers back to back so coloured " outside " of material was on inside of opening and other layer was facing outside. Doing it this way you can colour outside in colour of truck exterior an inside you can choose something that will come close to matching interior colour. Lastly i ran a small bead of ( Butylmastic ) NOT SILICONE !! at portion where fabric and bodywork touch to ensure a good seal and to keep dirt an debris from weakening weatherseal of said ( seal ) if you wish i can measure mine up for you

  2. So, you think you know how to load a Bobcat?

LOL :) well i,m IMPRESSED !! get told i,m Crazy loading my excavator onto my Beaver Tailed ACCO without ramps but thats takes the cake doing it with a wheeled Bobcat !! wouldnt attempt doing it with my Tracked Tekeuchi " MUSTANG " as its sold i the USA i belive but gotta admit i,d give it a bash in my ol 144 Mustang wheeled bobcat :)

  3. jus to add my two cents worth to your topic Freightrain , :) cpl little tricks i,ve learned w my air starters,

    (1) they DO sound so cool w the mufflers OFF ! BUT if u work in dusty conditions they will injest dirt w/out the mufflers on an chew the vanes out real quick

    (2) if truck is parked for a considerable time, 1st give your lift pump on Injector pump a few pumps to ensure pump has fuel, or install some 1 way check valves in feed line, as i,ve had trouble w both trucks in that regard

    (3) On my Rmodel the air tank is factory mounted Under bunk ( 36ins) but Above chassi rails , sorta under the bed but between the 2 bunk boxes , ( not sure but gotta investigate but here in Aust some models were fitted with side mounted air starter tanks that didnt take up much more frame length than the battery boxes, but tank was similiar in diameter to fuel tanks, mainly our Titans, some F model cabovers and the Cruiseliners, my MIR has side mounted tank but it,s a little longer and smaller in diameter

    (4) Dont be afraid to purchase a unit that requires a rebuild as the rebuild kit from Ingersol Rand is relatively inexpensive an the actual job is a walk in the park :) although DO check that the engagement gear is in good condition, and i have had some that have damage to the alloy stator that the vanes go into

    (5) above all of that they DO scare ol laides an kids when hit un announced :) an last thing i,d personally go with the fuel lube model as w any air tool lubrication will give u a longer service life

  4. Agree with your points on the Titan Chris, but my question would be WHY dont we get the MP10 ??????????? was told in Adelaide mack that wont be for some time before we get that :( meantime we get CUMMINS ,oh ran into Eddie Holland this week , ( brought down my ACCO from Darwin ) have u seen up close an personal his R750 ? gotta post some pics on here of it !! think US boys would get a kick outta seeing it !!

  5. Mack Man i agree with you wholeheartedly ........my MIR700 works evry day, doesn,t get pampered and in 2 odd years of my ownership the repairs i have done to it combined with the frugal amount of fuel it consumes to do its job far outweigh payments on a NEW machine . Sure a new shiney one wld be nice to look at but at end of day will it still perform like my 38 yr old Mack and keep going with the same reliability ?? as for bringing out a NEW " R " model i,m hoping to replicate my version of that when my R688 makes it out of workshop .:)

  6. ah jus reading thru replies ( thanks to that have ) but i SHOULD,VE PROOF read it 1st !!!! ah my fuel useage rate was a LiTTLE ( sic ) outta wack .......it SHOULD read 1.5 and there abouts KILOMETERS TO the LITRE not as i put it to the forum !!!! christ we could all live like KINGS on what i had written !!!!!

  7. jus a general question to you guys in the States , i went into my local MACK dealer here in South Australia to get speccs an a price on new MACK TITAN as i looking at putting together a triple ( 3 , 45ft flat top trailers ) for some work i,m at getting into in north and was told i can no longer order or even get a MACK fitted with a CAT :( only CUMMINS....... jus my personal prefference but when the SIGNATURE 600,s were released here in Aust they were almost without exception Red ( i,m convinced they paint em that colour for a REASON !! ) Hand Grenades......any input from you all out there on said Cummins wld be appreciated as would want to keep a Dog on tha grille to keep the fleet , but until i,m convinced otherwise i cant see myself sighnin for a Cummins powered puppy ......also as i,m throwin this to the forum any feedback on new CAT C15 ACERT as i had a 1st genaration C15 in a CENTURY class Freightliner doing double road trains ( as a driver ) and was RAPT in it :) Great Power an compared to 12L Series 60 DDEC4 previously in a STERLING was comparable in fuel economy..was averaging 1.5 to1.9L to 100kilometers , in my book that good for a gross weight of @ 90ton.......let u guys convert to MPG :)

  8. adding my 2 cents worth to your dilema minihorses ....i have a MIR700 Tipper on 44000 lps Camelback an a R688 with same set up but as a semi tipper an without question in your application i would stay with the Camelback!! had considered putting air susp under my R as she also does a bit of on road and i wish to put her to work occasionally doin Road Train work and had air in mind to update . but after a Lot of thought i,m staying w Camelback as as all replies above rightly state u CANNOT go past Mack susp in off road / quarry / tipper work !! an aside from the outlay in cost to convert the maintinence and upkeep on air in harsh terrain jus rules it out on that aspect alone.

The Superior abilities of good ol susp was brought home to me on a site just before Xmas, needed a driver to throw in MIR for a day moving excavated spoil from one side of site to other across a site closer akin to a motorcross track than a construction site!!! Threw a bloke in it that was if anything but unsure about " UGLY OL MACK " !!! capabilities as he was more used to " New and Shiney Late Model air equipped SHOW BOATS " and asked better keep excavator close as i,ll need it to be pullin truck thru it !!!! ah u can only guess my response .............at end of day he stepped outta her mumblin his surprise :lol: as we were on site was NOT shy in adding Pudding on an if each time he didn,t pull away from excavator with 16 /18 ton on i,ll stand rooted !! and all w little 237 Maxi :)she jus plodded away up and ova it all day !!

Anyway thats my imput and thoughts on your post hope it helps you in your decision..

  9. Started out the year with a new dispatcher that used to be the top broker at the plant. Its amazing how fast they become company men and forget about the financial diffacultys of truckin. Looked the other day while getting tax stuff ready, and am $8,000 down from last year, and that's before I added up tax reciepts. Seemed to me as if I worked just as hard as usual, but this northeast Ohio economy has definitely taken a beating. Seems to be alot of work up towards Cleveland, but there is also 1,000,000 more trucks competing for the work. :pat:

Seems readin thru replies in forum that things are NO different Wherever we are :).. well guys i do or should say i used to do all my own work , house cuts , building set outs and mainly landscape work an supplies , topsoil , rocks , wood chipp ect ,, but got into civil work for state govt water authority , went from bumblin around to Flat Out in space of a week !! in last coupl o weeks been trying to get my bread and butter jobs / customers happy while Water Authority work closed down for Xmas, subsequently my plans of getting R mod back on the work force has been somewhat delayed :(

Still the ol MIR battles on :) cant keep an ol Dog Down !! anyways hope u all have a Great New Year :)

P,s i,ll hafta post some new pics shortly of MIR as know she only an Aust mod an a cpl of you guys have requested a look

  10. cant speak for V8 exhaust bolts but my expirience with my 237 an e6 i have used Stainless Steel Allen Head bolts on mine w thick flat washers and spring washers complete with liberal Anti sieze on threads and shanks , tech tip run tap thru heads an blow out with commpressed air before installation as clean threads on new bolts will make life easier if you have to remove again an that way ensures you get correct torque value,s when installing almost eliminating chance of under torque an subsequent chance of them coming loose .Thick washers are a Must as thin washers tend to distort an let manifolds work loose

  11. I,m speachless ...THATis a Picture of beauty :) had no idea Mack built such creatures ...would jus love to hear it run , would be similar i guess to performance an sound as my (was ) International ACCO ( only Aust built cab over ) that was powered by a 392 IHI petrol ( gas to u guys over there )Great sound with twin 5ins stacks on straight thru mufflers . Swapped it out for a International 6cyl diesel which i added a turbo to give it a little more grunt ,would be interested to find out what some thing like a C model or similar would cost over there as i would jus Love to have one to add to fleet :)

  12. Sorry Thad ...have since been informed it,s known as PRIMAX ......an IHI or INTERNATIONAL TRUCKS as guess you would know them overthere ...an have canned suspension change on R Model ...gunna stay with my current setup an reinstall refurbished camelback , tho if someone can come up with a Neway set up as i posted before i,d look at it ....90ton is gross weight ....a typical two trailer Road train set up ...over West and in Northern territory they run 120Ton triples an larger ...have pics i,ll post of a TITAN MACK 600hp Cummins Signature pulling a Double B Double belly dumpers ..ON ROAD overall length of 53.5meters 175.5 feet ... and a common b Double 26 meter ..85 feet...runs at @ 70ton gross ...will download an post some pics ...dont think or know if you guys have TITANS over there, think only an Aust built Mack ..basically a CH cab w a bonnet not too dissimilar to old Superliner ...raised cab an a big square grille

  13. must be the antisocial in me ......:) but both my macks have had mufflerson the starters sorta not put back on .........scares little ol ladies an kids when u fire up in street ..........an on that subject watched mad max 2 for a giggle other night an early v8 R they used in that had it,s muffler on starter removed as well ...once u heard that sound u cant miss it ...:)an if anyone can remember or sees movie after reading this , when Max starts it when he discovers it out on road it takes TWO starts to get it going .an 1st attempt u can hear starter gaspin for air .....can anyone spot the compressor in background or did Max have what every air start driver should have an airline w appropriate fittings to drain drive tires .......hell reading back thru this i,m antisocial AND cyynical ......

  14. lol well while ever one else is at it i,ll add my copper coins worth .........all i can add is its a patiencegame Steve ....i,ve found that Mack boxes have Big gears w TEETH !!! an true with a Roady u can sorta race up an down box once mastered with eng revs an road speed but with a mack box all is acomlished with a little patience ...i have a MIR with a 237 coupled to a 9spd O/D Roadranger and a R688 with a 350 2 valve coupled to a 12spd twin stick Mack box an hafta catch myself jumpin from one to the other as both require different attitudes to driving style. only advice i can offer is dont stress we all Clean teeth an at end of day after all they ARE in a BOX :) unless your trying to jam a gear with poor ol girl bouncin on governor an your shoulder behind stick u cant really kill a mack Box......theyr,e straight cut gears for a Reason..:) as like the golden sayin BUILT LIKE A MACK TRUCK .:) sound like you have a steep learning curve ahead of you Steve ...anyway enough of my rambling ...keep it shiney side up ..

  15. looking for any feedback on IHI " INTRAX " rear air bag suspensions , looking for alternatives as replacing 4.66 ratio Mack diffs on Camel back in my R688 .....have had previous expirience with hendrickson HAS 400 " standard Mack air " and jusDONT LIKE .......would liketo fit Neway but hard to find in combination i want S/H .( Combination i,m after is @ 4.33 / 4.66 40 /44000 pound either Eatons / Rockwell or even Dana with Xlocks an Diff locks not fussed either on Spider ( cast spoke ) or 10 stud buds / Alco,s. my specifications are wanted as i wish to keep Road Train rating ( 90 ton ) GVM and i do a lot of work in off road ,paddock, quarry conditions and want to kep the capabilities in such conditions that i have with camelback, but is a cheaper alternative for me to go with a complete rear frame cut than it is to equip my current set up w diff and X locks, i dont want to turn Rmodel into a " bitsa " but will welcome any feedback on my topic

  16. can anyone send me pictures of what a properly aligned twin tailshaft with centre bearing looks like please

on your R ?? why do you need to know an what for ...can post u pics of mine , now stretchin chassi on mine so i,ll be changing it has youre been damaged or has it been fiddled with by someone ?

  17. Please post pictures of the MIR's! I have seen one on an Australian truck website(truckhub). Looks like an ML with an F model grille.

there is 1 pic of my MIR though not showing all of it as it,s parked alongside my Aust IHI ACCO ...will post some more dedicated pics of it soon , along with some of the R688 currently in my workshop undergoing some chassis repairs an a frame stretch to accomodate the Quick Change 10cu3meter body off of the MIR along with 5th wheel so both dogs are more versatile in there operations.

Frame on R688 is double chassis rail type as she,s rated to 90ton ( Double Road Train ) an was originally specced for stock crate work, so she sorta suffering from Rust spread forcing outter rail apart from inner due to its crate work .

Stretching frame will also allow me to move drive back @ 800mm to get more weght on steer as at its original spec was for crate which has a forward pin location on trailer , and pullin tipper ( dumper ) an Step Deck cant throw weight forward an subsequently too heavy on steer ..

And the usual myriad of jobs that seem to crop up when you start these projects :) ......pul 12spd an blow apart for new gaskets / seals as leakin oil is a Pet HATE ....oh an new exhaust , tires & rims all way around , alloy fuel tanks .... i Gotta Stop before i whip out spray gun ......had Considered Black with a Flame job ........also

trip to THERAPIST to STOP before i get carried away .............any way nuff o my rambellings i,ll get to it an post some pics soon ...

  18. dunno bout CHEAP in US but over here ( AUST ) yes they are less axpensive than say a KW but at end of day with KW you only really pay for the bloody name anyway ...i spent quite some time in my ( well i Drove it ) Century class with c15 550 horse CAT ( God i LOVED that motor ) pullin road train ( only doubles ) 90ton bout 200000pounds to you in US and 30m or 110ft long o/a from Adelaide to Brisbane ...2600 kilometers..1600 odd miles over some of aust shittiest roads an it was the BEST by far truck for job an i have had Fords LTLS 500 hp Red Head Cummins , 2 Sterlings 1 with 12.7l Detroit ( oh they call it HORESPOWER ....more like bloody Pony,s )!! and 1 with 550 hp Red Head Cummins ( great but reliability when gettin on an issue ) an prior to all of those a CHR with 454 electronic .....oh an i thought DETROIT was Gutless ......Great single trailer truck ...but road train jus too much for little puppy .

hell dont get me wrong i love my macks ...i have two a MIR ridgid tipper ( 237T an 9spd o/d Fuller) and a R688 with E6350 two Valve with 12spd mack box .. will post some pics of all bit later but new to this site an i had to reply to this subject ...
