Volvo. I didn't realize those trucks were so looked down upon. Even the wheels. I guess that's why they are so inexpensive.

Found a set of these aluminum wheels. They are 24.5's but if I run Low Profime tires the diameter is the same as the 1000-20's that are on it now. I think they were drive wheels but $400 for a set of six seems pretty reasonable. They will dis-mount the tires also. I dont know what they are off of, but the square vent holes look pretty cool huh?

Yes, I think what I really need to do is keep it stock, but get a good set of tires for it right off the bat.

I recently found a box van chassis with a Cat 3116 engine and a 5 speed transmission. I have a 3 speed brownie also. Thinking really hard on buying the chassis and retrofitting the engine and transmissions into the Mack EQX. What is the conscensus in the Mack community on doing such a thing. I tnow the Mack is fairly rare but I think a more modern diesel engine and a good set of radial tires would go a long way to make it more road friendly. The truck has a 354 gas motor with a 5x2 transmission. 7.63 rear end currently.

I made a trip out to Montana to visit a old friend and stopped by to look at that EHU.
My first impression is that it is so far gone as to be unrestorable. Yard art, maybe a parts truck if it werent so rare.
But after driving home and thinking on it for a few days I thought it may be a interesting start to a vintage motorhome conversion. If you could mount the cab on a later model 1 ton truck chassis and convert the 8 lug to 10 lug buds then find a van body for the back.....
I dont know, theres not a single piece of sheetmetal on it that dont need attention.

It belongs to my Father actually. We collect old Power Wagons and he found the Mack up in Colville, WA while chasing down a lead on another truck. I'm the one who will be doing the mechanical work on it. That said, I'm pretty sure he would consider selling it for a fair price. What do you figure the value is in its present condition?

1929 BC. Looked at it today. Not one piece of sheetmetal or wood that dosent need to be replaced or tuned up with a hammer and dolly. Cab is totally shot. Hood hinge is rusted in half. Aluminum flathead six with dual carbs. Guy wants $3000 for it.
I'm new to old Macks, but that seems steep for a truck that will have to have so much fabrication work done to it...
Is that a fair price? I was thinking $500-$1000.

Looking for set of vintage looking tires for my EQX. It has 1000-20's on it now. I like the looks of the tires of Dave Mauro's (RIP) '40 FK in the posts below. What are those? Availability?

5500 series. Is it worth $300?

Hey freightrain, is your trailer a 5th wheel or gooseneck? Thats the basic setup I'm building except its an open trailer instead of enclosed.

I got in a bit of an arguement with or shop mechanic about me being able to drive my 1949 EQX with a trailer without having to have a combination CDL (Washington State).
I have talked to a state trooper, and city cop and researched the topic on the DOL's website. As far as I can tell, as long as the GCVW is under 26K and I am not hauling commercially, I can drive without a CDL at all. All I am doing is using the truck to enjoy and to haul my personal vehicles and equipment to local shows etc... I have a vintage 1949 permanent registration for it also. Anyone else have any good info/ expirence with this? Thanks!

Found it! Its actually behind the oil filler cap.
I was towing it with a '97 Ford F250 crew cab with the power stroke. 18k rated trailer. Not a trip I want to repeat.

Where is the engine serial number located of the EN354 flathead engine? I cant find one anywhere. I need to verify it for the DMV.

The chassis number is EQX1D5822. engine is EN354, transmission is a 5 speed with a hi-lo.

Hi, I am in need of a windshield frame for a 1949 EQ. surface rust OK but no rot.
Thanks!

Not yet.... One day I will though. I cant break away to make it to the local stuff as often as I'd like.

Hi, I am from Cle Elum, Washington. The truck is from Lynden was owned by Bruce Berg. Before him it was owned by a construction firm and had a crane on the back of it.
I went to the ATHS convention in Yakima and met a guy named Tony who told me about a guy named Alfie who had the truck and wanted to sell it.
I have a bunch of the old Power Wagons from the 40's and 50's and always wanted a vintage hauler to start bringing them to the local shows and trailrides. Everybody keeps telling me to convert it to a diesel, but I think the amount I am going to use it (occasionally) I might just as well keep the original gas engine in it.
I also need to come up with a vintage lowboy trailer now obviously!
Its a blast to drive! just need to keep a box of ear plugs handy.

Yep, it runs and drives. I drove it into town yesterday and put fuel in it and took it to the tire shop. The tire guys told me I should go with a set of Budd 22.5 wheels and get some low profile tires. They wind up being about the same overall diameter as the 1100-20's I guess.

Does EN354A28147 sound like a engine serial number?

I just bought this truck, and its my first Mack. Trying to figure out what I have. EQX 1D. It has a flathead engine (engine ID somewhere?), and 2 stick transmission. 5 speed and a split. Single speed rear axle. I am also looking for a windshield frame. The one installed is pretty rusty.
