  1. Parade Update:

As of April 19th we have 91 trucks registered. I don't have a count on the B Models or other Macks yet but wanted to update the Group and hope that everyone with a Mack Firetruck that can make it will attend. We have awards for Best Appearing Mack, Best Apperaing B Model mack, Best Antique privately owned and best Antique Company owned. We have a few CF's and B's registered but don't have the total yet. We expect about 150-200 trucks so stop by!

If you have a Firetruck (or Mack Truck) and would like to attend please contact me and will get you registered!

Thanks, will keep you posted and post pics after the parade. :chili:

Hope to see you at the parade! :SMOKIE-LFT:

  3. They were $850...but we are working on getting them reproduced. I hope to cut the cost also! Watch for news around mid summer...

I think the truck looks in decent shape, I have a friend who bought an old Mack L Model, he had it repainted by Maaco for $2500 and looks good. The engine is usually a 707 and there a quite a few available if you look around. Most of the pump parts are still available. If you know how to work on the engine and brakes and want to have a fun truck this one could be fixed up for a decent paint job, bumper and grill, I would guess you could have it looking nice for around $5000.

Now if you want first class you could spent $50000-$100000, but then you wouldn't want to drive it.

Have Fun and keep us posted!

  4. Tom,

Thats a very rare b model, I think 9 were made, Its on a dodge running gear. I have only seen one at Paducha Kentucky show. I hope you can get it. it should be a neat firetruck.

    Fred

    Tom,

B61 Fred is correct it is a rare truck according to Harvey Eckarts B model Fire Truck book, less than 50 B475's were made for the US military, They used a Chrysler 354 marine Hemi engine, had a 500 or 750 GPM pump. Only a few were sold to civilian departments. I would agree that the price could range anywhere from 1000-10000 depending on condition. We have restored our B75 pumper and spent way more than 10000 so if you can get it for a good price go for it. Most likely problems will be rust in the compartments which is time and money to repair if you don't have the metal work skills and can get expensive. The engine is pretty simple and should be able to get parts for it, the pump is standard Hale pump and used pumps and parts are available through your local Fire Truck service rep. Brakes could be air or hydraulic, and can be rebuilt by several shops. The rest should be standard B model parts on the cab. Let us know if you get it.

    Good Luck,

    Firemack

  5. I would love to attend that, please post pictures of the macks! Thats a really nice and clean B model you guys have. harvey is a good guy and his newest book is great. Have a good time at your parade!

My god thats a really nice truck, is it a gas motor?

Yes the B75F has a gas ENF464 which is a 464 with special dual distributors and extra water cooling manifold on the right side. Standard 464 was 175HP the ENF464 firetruck engine (1 of 54made) ran only on premium and has 200hp.

Hopefully we will have a good showing of all the L model-CF Models in the tri-state area. We will post them after the parade.

  6. Sure wish I was closer to PA or I would be there.

Nice looking B75! is it restored or original?

    DW

We had to restore it, it was sold to another fire company in Vermont in 1973 and they painted it yellow, so we repurchased it in 2002 tore it down and rebuilt and restored it, repainted it back to original colors and gold leaf from pictures we had with help from the Mack Museum, Barry and others.

There are 2 other original B75F models close by that we used for research to make sure we put this B75F together just as original. One about 10 miles away in Malvern, we used the Malvern truck to get everything installed just like original condition as our truck was torn apart in 1973 when they painted it yellow and they were not worried about correctly installing all of the items like the original. Here is a picture of both trucks at the body shop during the assembly.

  9. You can have both the fuel pump and master cylinder rebuilt.

White Post Restorations does a great job rebuilding the master cylinder. I think he did my B75 Master cylinder for about $100

    http://www.whitepost.com/

Kanter can rebuild the fuel pump for about $80.

You can also have the mechanical fuel pump be the primary and add a valve and switch to add an elctric fuel pump as backup, but once it's rebuilt you won't have any problems and can keep it original.

  10. Fred,

I would like to keep it original, I did find one 1951 464 in Charlotte, so I can use the crank and pistons from that as donor to my block and may have the right parts, I can't tell until i get confirmation on the info from the owner. Thanks for the help!

  11. Fred,

Was this guy Richard Wilbur, He had an old B75 Firetruck and replaced his 464 with a 673 Diesel. I lost his contact info if you have it that would be great.

  12. Hi Fred,

My 464 spun #2 rod and the crank needs to be turned down to .30 and mains to .10-.20, recondition all of the rods and to top that off, I have .25 runout on the cylinder walls so need to bore it out sleeve and replace the pistons, adding up all that work and parts it makes more sense to look for a replacement block or parts block to get 1 good engine, since I can't find a new set of pistons.

Since your truck has the pump panel it may have the same same chrome panel , mine has 2 gauages and the tach on the chrome pump panel. it is about 12" X 18" so if yours is standard it should be the same one, if yours had the optional gauges it won't work, but I may use some of the gauages as replacement parts. Does your truck still have the booster reels and any other chrome hardware left? I will try to take a digital picture and post it for you. Where are you located?

    Thanks,

    Firemack

  13. Hi Fred,

I am looking for the chrome rails and some of the pump panel parts are they in good shape?

    Thanks,

    Firemack

1954 B75 Fire truck at Radnor Fire Co.

See it on the old board as i haven't had time to move them to the new one yet!

  14. Hi My name is John Statts and I have been a truck nut since my dad took me out in a 1946 Autocar Oil Truck around 1960!. I have restored a 1954 B75 Semi Open Cab Pumper (B75F1011) for the Radnor Fire Company. I have been restoring cars and trucks since about 1970 and used my experience with Corvette restorations on the B75. Trying to keep everything as close to original as possible which has really made it fun to take to fire company events and parades. Probably the most challenging facet of the entire project is the funding for a restoration of an antique truck by an active fire company.

I have researched a lot of information on B75 Firetrucks (from the Museum and in person) and have found 2 other B75's still in service in our area. I would love to have Harvey Eckart have another All Mack Firetruck get together so we could invite all of the Mack Fire Trucks to one location!

I have enjoyed the website and reading the messages and pictures from truck all over and really like the new format. GREAT JOB BARRY! Also Barry and the Watts mack team has helped out with the restoration for the past few years and so my thanks to all of the Watts Mack team!
