Hey everyone,

After years of working on Mack trucks I can tell you that the drivers who keep their rigs running the longest are not the ones with the newest equipment. They are the ones who stay disciplined about maintenance between major service intervals. Here is what most Mack owners skip that they absolutely should not.

First, check your air filter more frequently than the manual suggests, especially if you are running dusty routes or construction zones. A clogged air filter on a Mack MP8 engine kills fuel efficiency faster than almost anything else. Second, inspect your exhaust after treatment system regularly. The DEF system on modern Macks is sensitive and an early warning sign ignored can turn into a very expensive repair down the line.

Third and most importantly, do not wait for your brakes to tell you they need attention. Mack trucks carry serious weight and the braking system works harder than most drivers appreciate. Regular brake inspections between scheduled services have saved countless operators from roadside emergencies that could have been avoided entirely.

What maintenance habits have kept your Mack running strong? Drop your tips below and let us build a resource for the whole community.
