  1. been a while since i posted on here, figured its time for an update. the 99's all done and running down the road with an empty weight of 27,500, less than a 1/4 tank of fuel. not to terrible considering the 89's rolling in at 29,200 1/2 tank of fuel. Hopefully we can try and shave a few pounds off the 89 and get it under the 29K empty weight......

    Thanks Guys,

    Kyle

  2. DOT didn't really get us for anything, after some smooth talking and pointing out the name on the side of the truck said "Towing". He only slowed us down for an hour but the driver was getting paid the whole time. And we were able to free the load after 2 gallons of retarder and a few gallons of water. Luckily today was uneventful and tomorrow there is rain in the forecast so there is little to no work.

  3. Starts out monday with one of the guys blowing a lift axle tire on the truck, luckily it was only a lift axle. did a little fender damage nothing major. get it back in only to find it did a little more damage than that, ripped side markerlight wiring out :pat: cant let her finish out the day like that... get it all buttoned up only to be an hour behind schedule now...... always fun

Tuesday: going great really busy, had a guy come pic up one of our trailers to go get fly ash roughly 150 miles each way. 120 miles out he calls said rear axle inner tire passenger side blew, ripped the fender off, blew the light-box away, etc. so we load up and go chase him down get there and we forgot to check the compressor for gas :pat: guess what all 20 lugs (Budd style wheels) have to come off by hand now and I get that honor..... after ALOT of sweating and cursing we get it all back together and start bringing it back. Only to meet mr.DOT wanting to know why were driving a trailer back with no fender and a light-bar on the back of it, I figured the shredded tire would've been evidence enough but not to this guy <_< so all in all this was about a $2500 bad day between needing a new tire, new fender, lightbox, wiring, the drivers pay, etc.

Today, Wednesday : Starts off great I get a piece of steel in my eye. Get that all taken care of and back to the shop to hear one of the guys has a fuel line thats rubbed through and is now leaking fuel rather quickly. Again load up the tools and head out to him, get there and find the fuel cooler (that we didn't even know was on there) had brackets that rusted away, letting the cooler lines go down and rub on the driveshaft in turn rubbing a hole in them. We see that the one line has completely been destroyed, but the other is in decent enough shape to get us back to the shop. get everything in place working again, but the driver forgot to inform us that he had 4 yards of concrete on that was hardening up from sitting stationary for 90 or so minutes...... always fun when the load starts sticking......ohhh the joys of a :rmod_mix:

I hope and pray next week is better cause if this is a sign of things to come this summer, or were in some deep shit

  4. Saw this on another forum and thought I'd let you fello mack guys know that one of our own lost his father today at 59 years of age to prostate cancer. Here's exactly what he said on the other forum

Well my dad passed tonight at 710pm. This is the hardest thing i ever had to deal with. I was with him when he went. Holding his hand and telling him it was ok. Cancer is some really messed up stuff.

I know he is in a better pain free place. I also would like to say that the hospice nurses are the best. They took such good care of him. God bless them for the job they do.

To all the guys out there. Please get your PSA levels checked for prostate cancer before its too late. My oldman was only 59. He never got it checked intill it was too late. He already had stage 4 prostate cancer. Then it spread to his liver and bones. Love ya dad.

And Mack, if I'm stepping out of line saying this on a separate forum without your permission I apologize. :(

  5. Since my original post we got the whole truck finished up, but do to an issue with getting the title work straightened out she still hasn't seen the road. But yesterday we used the truck in our yard as a storage bin more or less, loaded it with 5 buckets off a 4.5-5 yard machine.

  6. Howdy!

Those are very nice pictures - especially useful for a modeller like me. Thanks for posting. Do you have access to an early Superliner? I'd love to see some pics of this machine, as I'm currently working on a scale model of one. At the moment details of the radiator puzzle me, pics of this part are extremely hard to find. Thanks again, have a nice day

Unfortunately we don't have any superliners, or even R models, only the DM's

  7. Forgot to mention, all these trucks started their lives as concrete trucks owned by the same company. Also, the two 77 DM's are not road worthy, the steel nose because of a weak motor and other things I'm not aware of, and the fiberglass because of the split outer frame rail

  8. oh,,forgot to mention i know what you mean about the leg room,,im pretty short, but a lotta tall guys tell me that its hard for them to fit..but from 66-72 they were even smaller..in 73 they added about 3-4 inches to the back of the cab,,just a little tidbit i thought id bring up...bob

I never knew that. Guess its true, you learn something new everyday.

  10. welcone aboard kyle,i just recently joined myself,,i love your photo,s im a big fan of dm myself,i own one,and learned to drive on one..beast of luck, with your career............bob

Thank you :SMOKIE-LFT: the DM's are great trucks till you have to run one when your over 6', the cab just aren't big enough to be comfortable

I could've sworn Mack had some kind of job placement program with East Penn College, but I haven't been able to find any information on it. In any case, I've found the best way to avoid strange looks is to only scream profanities when it's quite obvious that you've busted your knuckles! Best of luck to you.

Oh I already learned that  , I've been hanging around shops since I was 6 or 7.

  11. New guy here, my name is Kyle Gibson from Montgomery County PA, Currently a high school student who's been around trucks and heavy equipment my whole life. I plan on attending Penn College of Technology or WyoTech to become a diesel mechanic once I graduate. At my work we have 2 Mack dumps, a 89 DM E6 6 speed, 58K rears 17'6" R/S steel tub body, and a 99 DM E7 6 speed, 50K rears with an 18' R/S steel tub body (we are currently building this truck)

Some pics of the trucks: the 89 IMAG0034.jpg?t=1304823125 The 99 in the beginning stages IMAG0139.jpg?t=1304823173IMAG0141.jpg?t=1304823172IMAG0133.jpg?t=1304823173
