  1. Sounds like you have a malfunction in the control system for the Jake. The brake is obviously working since it engages.

It could be in the ECM, it could also be a bad sensor feeding faulty information to the ECM. It may even be part of the mechanical controls, even a bad switch that occasionally shorts.

It sounds like you have a good idea what caused it, but don't want it repaired by a shop that burned you once already. Ask around, find a shop you trust, and take it there. Any shop that does consistently bad work will become infamous among truckers. They tend to talk, and they vote on a shop by driving right past it. :thumb:

  2. Because you have increased the number of lights, you have also increase3d the amperage in the circuit, so of course you will have a faster flasher cycle. you should be able to find a different flasher unit for a trailer option. that should take care of the problem. the next problem you might run into is the brake light switch, increased amperage will cause that one to get hot and melt, same idea, replace it with a higher load capacity switch, after that you still might have a problem with blown fuses in the brake lamp and or turn signal circuits. :)

  3. I would pop the hood and inspect the battery. If you have some corrosion on your terminals then you have found your culprit. Just get an acidic soda like coca cola or root beer and pour it on the terminals as this will eat away at the corrosion and make cleaning them easier. After you get a wire brush and scrub down your terminals go to your local auto parts store and get some battery protestant its somewhere around two bucks a can and you only need one. Spray on the terminals until evenly coated then you are good to go. Also make sure all your contacts are secure. If you still have this problem then I would get the charging system inspected and if that's the original battery from 2000 then that's most likely where your problem will be at. But most likely its one of your contacts is fouled up so clean everything up and tighten everything up and you should be fine.
