If you do weld on the rim dismount the tire first to eliminate a wheel exploding on you.
I'd go with hub pilots if it was me. There are enough out there now to be halfway reasonable .

My 79 R 797S is all Mack but it has Hendrickson RT440 suspension. I guess thats why she ain't no gold dog.
The story on my 2 797's is that they were ordered to be logging trucks and was on their way west and the guy backed out on them. So they were sold here in Kansas City and spent their life here. The company my Dad worked for had two Autocars ordered with 445hp 8V-92s in them but bought these 2 797's instead.
Keep in mind that 34000,38000, and 44000, all used the same carrier, at least that is what my Mack literature says from 1977.

I have bee keeping an eye on it the last several years as I have the mate to it. And also the fact that I grew up around it. I could have made an offer on it last summer but wasn't in a position to do so. So when income tax time came around I called to so if I could make an offer on it and it was just listed on Purple wave. I hope to have both trucks going some day.
So far this truck is still in pretty good shape for being 30+ years old. The doors still close like new and even the cigar lighter still works. The interior is ok but a lot of cracks around the screws from being over tightened too many times. The brakes are like new and the front drums still have the black paint on them. It has 182500 miles on it.

What A/C? Those 815's probably will come up on a Purplewave auction soon.

It was but it and 2431 was bought new by Sharp Bros of KCMo who my Dad worked for. They built the Royals and Chiefs stadium.
I also have Sharp's 1959 White and their 1949 Trailmobile flatbed trailer .

We just wiped down 2430's paint with diesel fuel because she will have to work some before painting
