Engine rpms and Shifting if 2005 ami 370.
in Mack Truck Q & A

Ok so here’s the first post on here. I’m driving a 2005 Granite semi with an ami 370. The transmission is a maxitorque 8 speed multi-speed reverse transmission (which I like quite a bit). It seems to want to shift at like between 19,000 to 21,000 rpms. Each gear is a bit different, but when I shift at those speeds, it’ll drop to around 13,000, which seems to be ok. When I shift too soon and it drops below 13,000, there’s really no real power. My question is, is it ok to wind it out that high? It just seems weird to me. The rest of my company’s trucks have Cummins that shift at like 15,000 to 17,000. I have a good idea that this Mack motor is made to run at higher rpms, but it’d make me feel better to have some confirmation from y’all! Thank you so much in advance!!
