  1. I am trying to sell an early 70's Mack CF. It was a pumper that has been converted to a hauler. It still has the side boxes but has a flat bed inside. Closed cab with a Mack thermodyne 672ci turbo engine. Manual 5 speed transmission.

The truck was originally a New York City truck. I am looking to get $5000 for it but am open to offers or even open to parting it out if I find interest in the drivetrain first. The truck runs well.

Contact me for pictures or details.

  2. My 1972 CF has a GVWR of 33,000 lbs. I have removed the pump and tank and added in a flat bed and it weighs about 17,000 lbs empty but the statement above about the rated max is correct. In ohio, the cuttoff for needing a class B CDL is 26,001 lbs. In my case, having it registered as historic gets me around needing a CDL.

  3. I have a 1972 mack CF611 that has had the pump removed from it. It has the 5 speed transmission in it. I am interested in switching to a straight drive shaft so I can remove the trasfer case that is left over from the pump. Right now the transfer case ks mounted in there just because the driveshafts need it. Are there any models on the 600 chasis that would have a single straight drive shaft that I could put in place of what I have?

    Thanks,

    Matt

  5. I have removed the radio from my mack CF611 pumper and am not real sure what to do with it. I am curious if they have any value or if I just throw it away. It is an RCA series 1000. Any suggestions on what to do with it are welcome. I am not sure if any of the HAM radio guys would be interested in it or not.

    Thanks,

    Matt

  6. I wouldnt have a problem registering it as a "historic" vehicle in which case I would have the model year plates. I dont really like all the restrictions they put on historic vehicles. I would like to be able to just drive it sometime just for fun... not to a show or parade or something. The collectors vehicles can be driven any time with no milage limit the only stipulation is that they cannot be your primary vehicle. I dont know what to do yet.

Those of you who are registered as historic, do you drive it ever for anything besides shows? or parades? have you ever been hassled by law enforcment for driving it?

    Thanks.

I should have been more clear with my problem.

  7. Hi guys,

I am trying to register my CF611 as a collectors vehicle in Ohio. The BMV is really giving me a hard time about it saying I cant do it because it is a "commercial vehicle".

does anyone else have their truck registered as collectors in ohio? Even if it is not a fire truck I have to think their are high GVW vehicles registered as collectors.

    Can anyone help me out?

  8. Does anyone know of somewhere to buy pump packing rings besides directly from Waterous? Ther are chaging 97.50 for the packing ring kit that I need for my 1972 CMBX pump. Seems a little steep for some pieces of rope with a little graphite in them.

    Thanks for any information.

  9. I am looking for a manual for my waterous pump. I believe it is a 1000 gpm pump and is in a 1972 mack cf 611 from NYC. I am trying to dismantle the pump to rebuild it and am having issues removing the bearing housing on the input side. it doesnt seem to fit off over the gear that is in there.

Does anyone have a manual for this pump or know where I can get one. If anyone has a manual for a similar pump that might be good enough. The waterous website doesnt seem to work or I think I could find one there.

    Thanks guys.

  10. I used Hagerty on my fire truck, about $110.00 a year

Is your truck registered as a historic vehicle or a collectors vehicle? I got a quick online quote from hagerty as a historic and it said $200 per year but maybe it could be more accurate with more information.

I tried getting hold of gulfway insurance and havent gotten a response yet. I left them a message yesterday and havent heard back.

  11. Matt the issue is that most trucks are in some way or another coustom built to the specs of the owner and what options he needs. this means that there are many diffrences in length between the trans and rear end(s). What transmission do you have? If its a common mack trans we can give you an idea to the length that the output yoke extends from rear of the trans housing. then you can measure to the rear drive axel yoke and that gives you an idea of the needed driveshaft length. For refrence I have a 206" WB I bought a new driveshaft with a new tube and center joint for around $450. this was at a drive line shop.

Some of the Fire truck guys should give you a better idea of how the pump mounts to the trans as I have never delt with getting under a fire truck (yet!)

I will get some transmission numbers off of it tonight but it is a mack 5 speed transmission. The truck is a CF611 originally from New York City. The 611 was one of the higher production models of the CF chassis. The way it is now, it has a shaft that is about 8 or 10 inches long I would say between the transmission and transfer case for the pump. Then about a 3 or 4 foot shaft from there to the axle.

It seems as though with so many of them out there that someone must have converted one to a flat bed and had to remove the pump and transfer case.

    Thanks,

    Matt

  12. You will need to have a shaft manufactured by a driveline shop. Another thing is that you will not want to exceed 60 inches of shaft length, (light usage) or you will need to incorporate a carrier bearing into the driveline. Any driveline shop will be able to guide you through the needed steps.

Were there any of the CF600's that didnt have pumps in them? Seems like if there are then a driveshaft from one of them might fit.

    Thanks,

    Matt

  13. I am curious, has anyone with the CF600 chassis ever removed the pump and transfer box and put in a longer drive shaft. I am looking to remove my pump and would like to do it. I am wondering if there are any other premade drive shafts that just fit in there or if I will have to make one. Any information is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Matt
