  1. Hello,

So im cruising down the interstate in my new (new to me) 2011 Pinnacle (230 WB w/sleeper) and 53' dry van empty. Im running about 68mph when I see 2 potholes ahead of me, one to the left, one to the right. With limited time, I offset the rigs path to avoid the left pothole, but wind up clipping the other pothole with my right front runner.

BAM! I feel the inital and thunderous pound of the pothole, then, the whole rig begins to shake, vibrate, and shutter with alarming force as if Im loosing my front runner. I immediatley let off the throttle, and apply no brakes. As my speed naturally decreases I put the flashers on and begin to bail for the shoulder. 60 mph, 50, 40, 30, and then at about 20mph the rig stabilizes. I complete the stop, get out and check everything. All looks fine, nice and tight.

I merge back onto the intserstate and all is well. As I gain confidence, I bring the rig back up to about 70mph. The rest of the day it rides smooth as silk. No vibrations and no problems going over bumps, seams, steel plates, or ruts.

What could this be? Bad or weak shock?

The truck does have an air ride steer axle. I have no experience with air ride steer axle setups. Having purchased this truck very recently, the chassis was freshly painted by the dealer so its tough to see the "true" condition of things like the shocks.

    Any ideas?

FYI, the interstate I speak of is I-80 in New Jersey, need I say more.

One of the worst roads in America! I used to haul there in a roll off Autocar back in the 80's, many times I thought I lost a box!

  2. On clutches with frozen adjuster rings I soak the ring best I can with wd-40. Spray that stuff into every open hole I can while barring the engine over. I'll start the engine and run it for a short time while pressing the clutch pedal up/down. Usually that will break them loose. If not, I'll try an air hammer to try to move the ring. If none of that will loosen the ring then a new clutch is the only remedy.

There are a ton of answers on how to adjust a clutch. The way I was taught was by a Spicer rep. The most critical setting on a clutch adjustment is the gap between the throw out bearing and clutch brake. A 1/2" is preferred but

no more than 9/16". That is the adjustment you make with the adjuster ring. Next critical adjustment is the clutch brake (external linkage adjustment), when the clutch brake makes contact with the throw out bearing there should be approximately 1/2" clearance (aprox. finger thick) between the clutch pedal and the pedal stop. If both of these dimensions are correct then the free travel should be almost spot on. That is taking into account that everything is in good shape. Make sure before making a clutch adjustment that there is some pedal free travel.

    Thank you, will do.

  3. Welcome to the board.. Is it still a plow truck??? Several of us on here are into them.. PICTURES!!! :WELCOME::worthlesswithoutpics[1]:

No plow came with it but it was a PA Turnpike Authority truck, the truck dealer had about 6 of them and this one had the least rust, almost none except for normal Northeast salt rust pattern. The others were covered with rust and some were 2005's. Mine appeared to not have plowed much and hauled asphalt in the summer and it's still stuck in the aluminum body, the badly rusted ones had spotless dump bodies and did tons of plowing. One of the great things it came with is a central lubrication (Vogel) pump and everything that has a grease fitting is greased for the entire life. I did keep the spreader box and it had stone chips and I suspect the used the truck for oiling and chipping too. It also had a Calcium tank with a hydraulic pump.

  4. Welcome to BMT. How did a PA truck get to FLA? BTW, we like pics.

I found it on line and flew up to Port Jervis, NY to buy it and then drove it home. Here it is on the truck dealers you tube and I'll have more in a few days. I took all the snow plow and salter stuff off and it now has perfect rims and tires. It's going in for a clutch, rear brakes and a new windshield on Thursday. I'll use it to haul our small excavation equipment and 5-8 yard loads of what ever we need delivered to small jobs. It already made 10 loads last week.

  5. A friend of mine told me today his Mack (1998 CH Dump) has a wait period similar to glow plugs on his truck and the truck will not fire up quickly if you don't wait for the diagnostic lights to go out, I just tried this and it started real quick after waiting for the lights to go out. I feel like a Homer Simpson moment and: Doh....!

Has anyone else had this expearience?

  6. Truck goes in on Tuesday for the Clutch, I'm going to have them check the check valve and fuel heater for leaks.

The truck actually started right up this morning in like a crank and a half! What the hell! Then, shut it down 3 hours later and start up and a huge long crank to fire, and when it does, it's perfect!

  7. A vote for her means Gina McCarthy (unmitigated disaster) will stay in charge of the EPA and you will no longer have a 2nd amendment right either. She will just pick up right where O'mackdaddy leaves off.

You think you've lost some freedoms and are overly taxed now? You aint seen nothing yet. The real question though... If she and Bill get elected, then will they bring back the Whitehouse tableware they took with them (stole) when Bill left office? Of course remember Hilary said they were "dead broke." Such a hard life for them, brings tears to my eyes/

    Yeah, no shit!

She and Bill are now worth more than Romney in their "Foundation", and are both lying scumbags.

  8. A man murders 9 people. The evidence is indisputable.

However, rather than summarily execute him, taking his life as a penalty for abruptly ending the lives of nine others, and also to send a message that murder is not tolerated in these United States of America, taxpayers are senselessly paying for his incarceration going on month four, and now may pay to keep him behind bars for life.

Where’s the justice in this? He murdered nine people.......you pay.

Accused gunman in Charleston church shooting proposes guilty plea

    Reuters / September 16, 2015

An attorney for the man accused of gunning down nine people at a church in South Carolina in June said on Wednesday his client is willing to plead guilty to state murder charges if that would spare him a death sentence.

While I agree with everything you stated and most of what has been posted after, I'd like to know why I'm not hearing much about the scumbag in Oregon that killed all those Christians, and is being shooed aside and we're not to focus on his name or family?

The scumbag in SC had his family plastered on TV 24/7 with death threats; why is this new "diverse" scumbag's family not under scrutiny or the news focussing on this 24/7 like the SC case?

  10. engine has 2 timing sensors one in the front on passenger side,,, will not start at all if that one is bad, and one under the starter in the flywheel housing, will start but hard if it is bad or has "green wires" bad connection etc....

Thank you, makes sense, this truck saw a lot of salt!

  11. Hi, new to the forum and just bought a new (to me) 2004 cv713 single axle old PA Turnpike plow truck/salter, that never spread salt thank God! The truck is in great condition with very little surface rust and few minor issues that I'm fixing now. I love the look of a Granite almost as much as an old DM or U model :SMOKIE-LFT:

    I've driven most model construction type Mack's like B's, U's, DM's, RL's and R's.

  12. Furious Muslims fight New Jersey school board over religious holiday closure

    Associated Press / September 23, 2015

Tempers flared at a school board meeting in New Jersey when a room crowded with Muslim parents learned that schools will remain open during Thursday's Muslim religious holiday of Eid al-Adha.

Several of the Muslim parents and children screamed in rage and openly wept when the board announced its decision.

At one point, a young woman in a purple head scarf took the microphone and told them: 'We're no longer the minority, that's clear from tonight. We’re going to be the majority soon.'

A Jewish parent who attended the meeting said some people in his community felt they were being discriminated against because the Jewish holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur were not on Jersey City's official school closure list.

Meanwhile just across the Hudson River in New York City, schools will be closed for Eid Al-Adha for the first time as a result of a change put in place by Mayor Bill de Blasio in March.

The Jersey City Board of Education had originally proposed to close local schools on September 24 to allow Muslim children to observe the holiday.

The City Council unanimously voted in favor of the closure two weeks ago.

However, during the contentious four-hour meeting held last Thursday, the board voted to keep Jersey City schools open so as not to cause disruptions for non-Muslim families.

‘Doing this at this point on six days’ notice for this upcoming holiday is going to cause undue hardship on 5,000 to 10,000 people, who are going to have to scramble to get coverage for their children,’ board member Gerald Lyons told the meeting.

Board members said that Muslim students who choose to take Thursday off to observe Eid al-Adha will not be penalized.

The school board is expected to review its religious holiday policy later this year.

Eid al-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is the second of two religious holidays celebrated by Muslims around the world to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

Thank you Obama. He did the same thing to NASA....
