I'm interested in the details of the cost and difficulty of the job as well. My '70 model DM685S has a vibration over 40 mph ever since we bought it. Appreciate any details you can give me, as we already redid the front driveshaft. Thanks, Chuck

I see you have been watching the same macks I have been seeing recently running through T-town! They sure are some beautiful trucks - wish I could run one one someday if I had a chance. Do you know where they have been hauling to? I have too much fun running my old green DM model when needed. Good old truck- just can't kill them.

Really cool brochure! I need to get my clutch brake fixed so I can make those speedy upshifts like the book says I am supposed to! Right now I make the gears talk a bit when I need to hurry things up. Thanks and I look forward to more.

Darn straight, Rsmartyn! I think I may just leave her set the way she is because she has been darn good to me, and I don't need to be setting any speed records. Hell, the truck is 36 years old and it has never left me setting along side the road for many, many years now, so I don't have anything to complain about! I try to run the backroads as much as I can and that seems to work well for me. And your right, she sure does sip the fuel compared to the new trucks. So I think I'll leave her where she is set rather than risk melting some pistons down..

I have a 1970 Mack DM685 with a good ol reliable 237 backed by a siz speed tranny. It is a tandem dump and I just love driving the old girl, however most other drivers don't care for me too much when they are following me up any type of hill with a load on. The motor runs great and really doesn't smoke too much when she is at wot..no matter what rpm. This leads me to believe that she could stand to be turned up a bit? I see some Macks rolling thick black smoke at every shift but not mine.

Can anyone give me some more pointers on how to get some more power out of my motor with out sacrificing reliability? I just bought a 20 ton trailer to pull behind her so I really need all the power I can get. Thanks for any advice, Chuck
