I pulled the radiator out of my B-42 today and was surprised to find that the shutters are stationary. I had just assumed it had some parts missing as I've never really paid attention to it. I thought all the B models had shutters. My truck has lived in the South its whole life so is this a southern thing?

Can I see some pics of the engine? What was done to transplant it? I have a B-42 I would like to convert to diesel.

Most of my experience is air cooled engines, but a difference of less than 50-100 degrees usually doesn't mean anything. Especially at idle. There are folks on here that know a lot more than me though.

I'm in central Mississippi. It snows about 2-3 times in 10 years and no salt on the roads ever. Ha ha. I've never been around any double frame trucks and wasn't sure what "normal" is. I appreciate everyone's advice.

I have a double frame B-42S. The gap between inner and outer rails is 1/4-3/8 inch in places. Is this too much to be safe and usable? The majority of the spread is behind the suspension mounts, everything forward of that is pretty tight.

I remember several days ago there was someone on here restoring a some Transcon equipment. I thought everyone might like these pics of this van being used for storage next to the airport where I work.

Do you know what gears it has and which trans it has?

What rears are in it? What kind of road speed does it have?

Ok. Thanks.

I don't know anyone with a B to compare to. My truck is missing the fuel cap. A modern cap won't work as it appears to be pipe threads. Is it a standard pipe cap with a vent or can some one show a picture of their cap? It's the 70 gallon square tank.

My truck is a '62 so that will be the newer style?

These are rated at 38,000. I would have thought a B-81 would have heavier rears than that. Thanks for the info.

I have a B-42S with a SWD-570 bogie and CRDP-92 and CRD-93 rears. The truck has 8.24 gears. Ring and pinion sets pretty easy to come by for these? I would like to change it to a 6.36 or so.

One reason I had thought about the 5.9 Cummins was it will turn 3000+ RPM. I still don't want to scream to do 39 MPH though.

I just got my Mack museum package today. My truck has 8.24 ratios in the rears. Are new parts available to change to a higher ratio or do I need to start looking for a tandem donor truck?

I'm still waiting for the mack museum package, so I don't know what my ratios are in the rears or the trans. What are the high gear ratios in most of the duplex trans? The shift pattern placard call my trans a "10 speed overgear" I assume that means it's an overdrive unit. Do the triplexes and quads have higher high gear ratios or just lower on the low side and closer together?

That was my thoughts on it. I don't have the 402 running yet, but to hear everyone talk they are such slugs that it's not really worth the effort. It will be pointless to have the truck if I can't drive it without getting run over because it can't keep up with traffic.

I've been working on my B some and was just thinking about putting a 5.9 Cummins in it. That would make the truck much more practical to actually use some. Has anyone done this swap? I assume Mack used a standard SAE bellhousing a for the duplex behind the EN-402, so getting a Cummins SAE bellhousing wouldn't be a big deal. I'm not sure what to do for an air compressor though. What do y'all think about this?

What size do you have now that you work in? The B is my "biggest" project in more than one way. Ha ha.

What do most of you have for a shop to work on project trucks? I'm looking to build a shop and I'm wanting to borrow ideas for my B-42. What do you have for special equipment in your shop for working on old trucks?

Thank you for the replies. I really don't know much about these. It just struck me as odd. Are there many gas jobs left? I don't see much about them, though most of what I know comes from here or elsewhere on the Internet.
