About this blog
Hi all..I have an 1980 R model and the steering box has a slight weep coming through the tell tale hole at the side of steering box (Ross HFB70/HFB64) not sure as the raised cast numbers are hard to get to for identifying..i have cast numbers at the bottom of box-402878B ,on the side of box-2339, on the top 2270. The question i'd like to ask is that can the sector shaft seals still be changed out whilst the steering box is still mounted to the chassis frame? (Inside chassis mounting), I'm thinking its the sector shaft seals...I have mentally prepared myself to do as follows,
take off bonnet
take out radiator
take out front leaf spring pins (punch out)
take out the whole front cross member mountings
undo steering link arm to pitman arm
undo steering wheel link assembly
then i hope like fuck the big bolts that hold the steering box in come off nicely 1"5/16 or 1"3/8
undo and plug both feed and return lines
there isn't a lot o room between the box and the side of block (engine) and so would i have to loosen engine mounts but leave bolts in, and then either port power the block to the side by a bee dick? or use a lifting technique,...anything else other than the above will be considerably appreciated guys n gals...first time for me...thanks
