Engine Blowing Oil Out Od Dipstick

Recommended Posts

Hello all, new to this site. I was reading the other oil blowing threads and was wandering if this might be my problem as well. I have a 97 Mack with a e7 454 engine. I just had the engine overhauled (new pistons, sleeves, liners, bearings, heads, air compressor, etc) a month ago. All of a sudden, the engine started blowing oil out of the dipstick tube. Everyone was looking at the air compressor including Mack. They have installed 2 more air compressors within the last 30 days. I see that the guys here was talking about the 426 engine. Could the turbo be my problem as well. What else can I do to be sure of the problem. I have nearly 20,000.00 in this truck so far trying to get it right. Please advise!!!

Bill,

I first would give the shop a call that built that motor and let them give you a definite reason WHY!!!!!!.....may be something simple... I hope you got some kind of warranty 90 day or something better. Check back with us after you get the shops help.

What Luck

Piston rings broken or not sealing for some reason?

Valve guides defective allowing exhaust and / or boost pressure to get past the valve stems into the rocker compartment?

I will tell ya one thing the Compressors are not the problem!Does the blowing oil happen under load? if so four places to look Turbo for sure good place to look after all you have done the engine over! Having said that is it making oil? leaking injectors or bad transfer pump can cause fuel contamination flooded engine case!!!! over full ?. bad rings , valve guides! Compressor at the bottom of the list.

Keep us posted on what ya find!

I have a 97 that was doing the same thing, no overhaul though, and all it was, was the rubber hose on the breather tube/pipe had collaped, what little blowby i had, could not escape out the breather pipe. Instead, it pushed out the only other place it could, the dip stick tube. Not saying this is the problem, but i know i was relived when thats all it was on mine..

let us know what you find....

I had a S60 DD dump truck come in for the same thing and first thing i did was stick my finder in the blow by tube and nothen there but after some checking i notice no blow by at all from the tube. I check some more and found mud up in the tube maybe 6 in in there. The truck had been stuck in mud and the tube hangs down as low as the axle.
